Personally I find planks worthless for developing separation. I think they're purely a toning exercise.
You should try and incorporate a twisting motion in all of your ab movements. Twisting will work your inner abs and make your waist smaller.
They're some great ab routines under the My Fitness Girls channel. Rob Riches has the best ab videos I've seen on YouTube.
