I have also seen where the macros are provided and examples of possibilities are provided. This takes a little bit more work from the athelete however it provides variation.
The coach ( at least a good one) can lead you to water. They cannot force you to drink it.
Having a good coach is important but you need to put in the effort.

I mean coaches that give out more of a cookie cutter plan.
Like meal 1: eggs egg whites and oats
meal 2 3 4 and 5: chicken breast, tilapia, cod, tuna, or lean turkey
Sweet potato or rice
Broccoli or asparagus
2 servings of peanut butter or almonds twice a day with any meal
