I wish I would’ve seen this answer a few years ago! I went to Red Cross, cocky and ready to donate only to roll my sleeves up and get the “price is right” loser tone! Turns out I’m FDA banned....

    Funny

I served overseas in Germany & UK during the 80’s & 90’s. Mad cow disease outbreak (Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease) was rampant. The FDA deferred anyone from donating once shipped back stateside. My whole family is affected. A lot of GI’s got caught up in that mess.
It costs me about $200 locally for a therapeutic phlebotomy only for them to dispose of it before I even leave the infusion center.

First I want to say for the record: don’t lie about stuff as in my situation. That’s a whole different ballpark when it comes to whole blood and the health of others. It was a snide wise crack at the FDA after 30 years. The ban hasn’t been lifted so I still play by the rules! No horns popped out of my forehead yet...
