    Is this irony?

Anyone who makes less than 200k a year gets nothing out of voting for Trump.

I know why they vote for trump, but it’s not because of economic policies.
Single issue voters are the primary thing keeping the GOP from going down in flames at this point. The really sad part is, most of those single issues are also based on assumptions with little bearing on reality. They’re not so much voting FOR the GOP as against:
“Dey wants to take our guns.”
“Dey wants to give free shit to teh welfare qwains.”
“Dey wants to gib muh jerb to teh Mexicans.”
“Dey wants teh Muslism to Jihadi teh constitution and something something shareyah law.”
“Dey wants tuh murder all teh baybeez.”

ETA: yes the mocking tone is 100% intended, and if you still believe any of the bullshit above, you’ve earned the mockery.

Exactly, fear mongering and division. Republican politicians are experts at pinning groups of people against each other with often meaningless and false pretenses. They’re against funding anything that benefits the working class, that educates them, that elevates them. They want to keep them stupid and manipulate them through paranoia and outright lies. They turn poor people against the good people who want to help them and call them “elite.” Elite because they believe in science and the good of humanity.

It’s mind boggling to see people vote for someone who not only is nothing like them, but who doesn’t care about people like them, never wants to be seen with people like them, and would be embarrassed to be associated with people like them. Remember how Trump didn’t like the optics of the people storming the Capitol because they looked trashy/ low class? Now compare that with most democrats who came from blue collar homes that earned their positions, worked hard, and went to school. Somehow, these are the elites according to pubs.

    THAT is the irony.

I grew up in a rather backwoods and extremely right leaning part of the country (rural Virginia in the 1980s). I’ll never forget the first words that knocked that bullshit out of my head, and it was said to me by someone from the area during the H.W. Bush v. Clinton election cycle:
“If these ignorant bastards only knew what the Republican initiatives have done to the land since the 1950s, they’d all be Democrats. They talk all of the time about hunting, living off the land, doing things their own way, but all they think about is the goddamned rifle, and not the part that the rifle is used for. Those things aren’t worth shit if there’s nothing left to kill.”

You’re right, that’s another dilemma. People want to go into the great outdoors to hunt and fish our streams, rivers, and lakes... but they vote for people who deregulate environmental protections that ultimately pollute and destroy nature for the sake of greed. ?? Beats me :-/
