Also, if you suspect you have hemochromatosis, go ahead and get tested. That way you'll know if you need to keep a closer eye on your iron levels.
Also, there's been some confusion, but I think the Red Cross no longer defers donors with hereditary hemochromatosis.
I know they let people certain genetic disorders to donate...Leiden Factor V, etc.
