what do you suppose the officer should have done? stand there and continue to let the girl punch her or another student/teacher? no. she should diffuse the situation in the most effective and quickest manner. with hinesite being 20-20 she probablly would have rather used pepper spray, or wait for help, if possible. the fact is that cops have to have the upper hand to enforce the law, though flawed, is still better than every one having to making their own law.

lota, if you are 110 lb women you need to get off the streets and contribute to law enforcement in a different manner if you feel that is your calling... that is plain and simple... If she does not have the ability or mental capacity to realize this is an inappropriate way of treating civilians then she needs to rethink her profession... I know a few police officers and none of them even talk about tazing an unruly adult civilian much less a child... there is all kinds of methods...negotiating, etc... I have seen cops control adult men with a hold of a couple of their fingers....they had a mans fingers and were controlling his unruly behavior with twists and stuff....

ahhh... it is pointless to argue... some people jump to extremes... the police enforcement agencies are responsible for weeding out people that process situations in extreme aggressive manner like you are suggesting...they apparently failed with this lady...

they even said the kid had a disability... wtf?

agree with what you said about her finding another way to serve her community, but i worked in the prison system for a while and i know that you(an officer) has to have the upper hand at all times, you have to take action before they do. the girl was 11 and that is extremely young, but if the officer felt that she opposed a threat to her safety than she acted in an appropriate manner.

BUT THE 11 YEAR OLD GIRL PUNCHED!!!!! TASERS CAN KILL AND YOU CAN'T DEBATE THAT- ITS PROVEN, ITS AN ALTERNATIVE TO USING DEADLY FORCE- IT'S NOT MEANT FOR ANYTHING SHORT THAN WHAT A REGULAR .45 CALIBER PISTOL IS USED FOR

Just cuz someone is "20", doesn't mean they act "20"
Mature or not, throwing a punch is still throwing a punch. Immature people can throw just as good as a punch as a mature person...

I already said no to tasing, I dont know why you typed all caps. its like your yelling at me for some reason lol.

Like I said before, both were wrong in how they acted. But if your only point is "shes 11", I mean..c'mon now...

So you rather tase a 25 year old disruptive midget (3ft 45lbs)
over an 11 year old disruptive kid (5'3'' 160lbs)????

    Thats just nonsense

Wow! Interesting thread w/ some good arguments on both sides and no one has resorted to name calling yet! Bravo!!!

Personally, I'd much rather get tased than pepper sprayed. A few seconds of getting zapped and it's over, but pepper spray takes much longer to wear off and it sucks. Yeah, tasers can cause death in those with heart conditions, but pepper spray can also cause death for people with asthma. Bottom line is, they both suck. At least with the taser, the perp (or in this case, child) goes down quick and can be restrained in a timely manner. People who get pepper sprayed tend to lash and flail about like a mad animal trying to get that stuff outta their eyes.

What I hate about the news report was the mother's second hand information. She wasn't there and doesn't know for sure what happened. Maybe the kid deserved it, maybe she didn't...we weren't there and we don't know either.

I will say that from personal experience, mentally handicapped kids are strong as fvck. When I was 13, one of the special ed boys went wild on the playground and tackled a special ed girl. He began dry humping her ass like there was no tomorrow and it took 4 grown men to pull him off. According to the girl's mom, she has the mental capacity of a 5-year-old. She probably doesn't know her own strength and popped the resource officer pretty good. However, does that merit getting tased? I don't know. World ain't what it used to be. Children nowadays seem to have lost their innocence, but maybe I'm just remembering things differently when I was a kid.

Damn straight! That same kid uprooted the monkey bars like he was lifting a soda can. The principal and math/physics teacher estimated it was equivalent to a 600lb deadlift. I think "retard strength" is appropriate.

well i agree with the above how shes a scumbag and the mom is lying but the cop didnt have any right doing this. i mean i remember being in school. the 14 year olds got in fights that were hardcore and it took like 4 ppl to break it up but no need for a fukcing taser. retard strength come on where the fukc did you hear that. thats the same thing as saying steroid strength asshole strength midget strength grandma strength. im sure her mental isues werent sever maybe like not smart and have add but look she looks like she lives in the ghetto and wasnt raiser proper;y. her mom looked like she worked 3 jobs with no dad and never had a responsible influence. maybe her older sublings but im sure they werent a good influence on her. shes got a limp going on she looks like a thug. she looks like a ****ed up child but the taser was way out of hand. cops are in the school to stop violence not taser someone for amusment.

it sounds like she already tried those things b/c the girl hit her. that means that she had to be close to the girl, i would imagine trying to restrain her, when she got hit. and if she was trying to restrain her than im sure that she probally had already tried talking to her also. its not really likely that the cop ran in their spraying and praying with her tazer out. if she felt that she was at a physical disadvantage (even though she was 11) then she had to use her next measure of restraint. this girl obviously posed a serious threat or the teacher/students would have tried to restrain her. think about a situation dont just read the head line.

The mom states that the girl has the mental capacity of a 5 year old. I've got a normal 3 1/2 year old girl, who's as light as a feather and the things you mentioned usually don't work when she's acting up. Even if I pick her up, she's as slippery as a fish and more often than not, I get kicked in the nads.

I'd be willing to bet that the resource officer tried these things as well. But when a hefty mentally-challenged 11 year old gets agitated and throws her ham-sized fists around, I can understand the officer's reaction.

I've been training in aikido with the Tokyo Riot Police for over 8 years now and I'm a firm believer that submissions don't always work, especially with a non-compliant individual. You have to be able to get the person into a position that favors a submission before you can even apply one. It's not easy at all. Hmmm...fvck it. Now that I'm thinking about all this, I think the officer did the right thing!

Picture this... A fat ass female school resource officer, and a 11 year old girl thats chunky ass hell cussing, spiting, mental health patient takinging swings at the female cop. That cop probably felt like that 11 year old would kick her ass. The cop prob was by herself with only female school staff who aint gonna help restrain cause they worried bout getting fired if they lay a hand on a student. If the girl was that out of control then I see why the officer would tase. I think that its ****ed up but kids these days are straight crazy.
