rest at 60-65% mhr for one minute or more, however long it takes you to get there doesn't count as rest. try that and do less sets.

thanks Twist, i did 3 sets of all leg exercises two days ago, i didn't feel much sore the same day since i do my workout late in the day, but today i feel sore but not near the intensity as my previous workouts, and it feels like its tapering away already, so i am assuming this is a good sign, or a good indicator that perhaps i was overtraining.

Soreness can be caused by tearing of the muscle fibers which is a good thing, I dont know about anyone else but I work hard in the gym and know the next 2 days after, the muscle i worked is gonna be sore, If its not sore I would increase the weight the following week. So in my opinion NO PAIN NO GAIN applies and has worked very well for me in my training so far.

I appreciate all the replies though.

well from the looks of your avis its definitely working for you...I’ll try to back off for couple of weeks and see what happens, if i go backwards in muscle gaining then I’ll increase a little more and go from there.

well i worked out my chest on Monday, hardly felt sore the next day and that was it. i did three sets, incline bench, flat bench and cable incline flyes, same with my triceps, only three exercises, and no soreness. i fell like i didn't workout at all, basically i like it when i got sore, that kind of gave me assurance that i hit the muscles good. i think next i will do 4 sets and see how that plays.

^^^^^im the same way...i take every set to failure...i cant help it...i only do 10-12 sets max for chest and i feel a bit sore when i strech the muscle the next day...i believe what musclescience says and all as he is well versed in...well muscle science, but if it aint broke and your still getting results why fix it....
