Meh, they're ok. I liked it when they first came out, but there's better stuff out there IMO. I have an Armenian friend who's all proud of them!

I used to be big into the NYHC scene in the early 90's. I noticed you're from NY. Man, that was a fun time, shows at CBGB's, Wetlands, etc. I was into alot of bands at the time:

    Killing Time (Raw Deal)
    Leeway
    Vision
    Quicksand
    VoD
    Agnostic Front
    Cro Mags
    Uppercut
    Supertouch
    Breakdown
    Sheer Terror

Man, there were so many of them...

Loved Bonded By Blood and Pleasures of the Flesh, nothing after that though. Yep, Kirk was an Exodus founder!

Those bands definitely have heavy elements, but the heavy metal sound was CLEARLY started by Sabbath. Nobody was heavier, and they had the dark sound to go with it.

I'm surprised, but I don't recall anybody mentioning Testament yet? Alex Skolnick is a fvcking AMAZING guitarist.

Huh??? Dude, Ozzy invented Venom. Without Ozzy, there would be no Venom. Don't get me wrong, Venom are badass, and pretty much started Black Metal (although they WEREN'T Black Metal) - but not sure where you get that from.

i'd of labelled venom as black metal, musically they were pretty limited but great when you were 14 and back tracking the intro to 'in league with satan' lol

except ozzy had a mainstream sound. its oldschool mall metal. venom holds the roots of underground metal.

i see a metal thread and i know people are gonna mention nu metal bands like slipknot and other corny crap

heres some real metal. came out in 1985' or 86

and this guy of norway the original singer of mayhem shot himself in the head. it was put on the album cover. one of his band mates put some of his brains in stew.

its stayed remarkably nu-metal free, thank fvck lol. nothin worse than big shouts for w@nkin park, soggy bizcut etc lol. only thing i hate about metal festivals these days, you have 6-8 of these crappy bands on the bill to appeal to the masses.

This I agree with. Just wanted to give credit where it was due, but yes - Venom most certainly started something that became huge!

To me, Korn was hugely responsible for the birth of nu-metal. Korn is ok, but I don't generally like nu-metal. Godsmack? Ugh

Anybody into progressive metal... Opeth?? They're a cross between Norwegian Death Metal (not a huge fan) and Prog Metal (think much heavier Dream Theater but w/ groove beats)

Opeth has grown on me......I have sirrus radio and the Metal station plays them often. I also have started to like Volbeat, not really "metal" but a talented Danish band. And for the record Korn's first album was the shit! I seen them with Rob Zombie and that was one crazy ass pit.
