    For something like this I'd adopt a prison style training so I'd do as many sit ups as I can, rest and repeat until I reach a designates number and I'd be do this every day and take Sunday off

    Just remember one thing, an old "rule" in training if you will:

    Never start something new (new excersizes, ways to train, etc)
    by doing it 110%

    I was told this by a medal winnng shot putter who now lift over 150kg (*2,2=330 pounds) in front squat several times, and is over 55yo.

    He told me this when I had lower back pain after I had started a new abs program and had done many abs excersizes every day for 4 weeks straight and was going to do it 8 weeks.

    Moral of the story and rule;
    Ease into it if it's a new stressor on ligaments and joints.

    One thing that's being overlooked unless I missed it is increasing cardiovascular fitness. It sounds to me like your abs are fatiguing rather early. If you increase your overall aerobic fitness. Your body will be better able to shuttle lactate out of the working muscles and transport glycogen back into them. If they are running out of fuel and getting backed up with metabolic waste, there is no way they can function to their full capacity. My advise, join a group HIIT training gym like orange theory or 9 rounds to get your overall fitness up.

    Thanks guys... there is a 1.5 mile run that is part of the test so I have been doing a good amount of cardio. I am now just strictly doing sit ups in the same way I will be tested on... doing them every night and this method seems much better. Thanks for all your support guys.
