Yes I attend Church (not every Sunday, maybe once a month or so). But I'm a preacher's kid. After my father retired from the Army he's pastored his own church for quite sometime. Anyway we attend one of those mega churches here in Vegas. And yes if you are in a black church choir, you have to really know how to sing. Keep in mind that every R&B singer with a tremendous voice (Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey, Faith Evans, Aretha Franklin, etc) all got their start in singing in black churches. We don't all dance in church but black churches are not nearly as solemn as white churches. Even black Catholic churches are different from regular Catholic churches in the way music is incorporated into service.

You know I hear that alot. But I've got to a point in my life where I find that hard to believe. I don't mean any disrespect to you or anyone else who claims to feel that way, but from my experience race has always been a factor in my life. I grew up in a military family so I've been a lot of places and everywhere I've been from western PA (Irwin), to Ft. Benning, GA, and as far west as California (Ft. Irwin) and many places in between. And everywhere I've experienced instances of racism. But I've seen it even in my own family in South Carolina. You see some of my relatives loved my sisters but hated me. Why? Because my sisters are light skinned and I'm dark. There is a serious identity crisis within the black community even to this day.

But I have close white friends whom I've shed blood, sweat, and tears, with on the football field who claimed the same thing. Hell I've seen them bang black women, but once their daughters brought home a black boyfriend, their attitudes changed. Hell, I'm guilty of this myself. My daughter (who doesn't even look black) is currently (and living with) a white mormon boy (she's 21). As you can probably imagine, it don't get much whiter than him. LOL!!! And I still have a bit of an internal problem with that. It's human nature. Deep down in my heart I would much prefer my daughter to be with a black man or a polynesian man (her mom's hawaiian). But its something I have to deal with as long as she's happy.

So with that said. Everyone is prejudice and everyone is a little bit racist. And until we recognize that, we will never have constructive conversations about the topic of race.

OK, so the Mormon thing in my experience would be a good thing. Virtually every Mormon I know has an incredible sense of morals and decency. I know that they get a lot of flack for certain sects believing in polygamy and such. However for a period in human history and speaking strictly from biblical accounts and modern genetic testing. Polygamy may have been the only reason that the human race did not go extinct. It is believed at one point in our resent human history, there were only a few thousand breading adults in a small area of the world that were the only survivors of a major environmental event. Thus in theory you only need one male to propagate the species. One male can fertilize a thousand females, which produce a thousand offspring at a time. If you flip that number around one female can mate with a thousand males and still only have one offspring at a time.Wouldn't you want the biggest, baddest and smartest males left on the planet to be breading with so few available females? Anyway that is neither here nor there.


I think that no matter what race or creed you are, someone will look down upon you. Look how we break ourselves into groups. Look at Europe for example. All through its history the Europeans have build and fought each other based on who had the strongest group and then, identified with them. There were thousands of different tribes of people in Europe less than even a thousand years ago. I am big into endo-european history, I was reading how different German tribes (yes the germanic thing again) have different derogatory terms for other Germanic peoples that simply lived on another side of a river bank, no kidding. These terms and feelings apparently still exist to this day. That is not just not just Germany or Europe. The Middle East is a hodge podge of so many different groups of people and asian too. It is endless the amount of different types of racial hatred that a person could foster against those who even appear like each other.

Want to know a fun fact about how the British got the derogatory term "Limey" and how the Germans got the rebuttal "Kraut," term. Vitamin C, it all boils down to vitamin C.

As you know, Britain and Germany had competing Empiricist and Colonial interest. To maintain these large imperiums, both build naval fleets to sale to there distant colonial spots. Before the advent of Thomas Newcomen and later James Watt perfected the steam engine. Sailors literally were away shore and new resources for indefinable periods of time. This is where Vitamin C comes into the picture. One affect of not eating a diet that has fruits, veggies and other greens is the lack of Vitamins and Minerals such as Vitamin C. Vitamin C deficiency leads to a condition called Scurvy. Not until James Lind in 1753 described a possible treatment to the scurvy problem for sailors was citrus fruits was anything packed on a ship to prevent sailors from developing the condition. This is where we get into the the Terms now. The British apparently packed their ships with Limes and the Germans of course being from German packed Sauerkraut. Which by mere luck both contain high amounts of ascorbic acid or better know as Vitamin C. I probably do not have to spell out the rest of the story for anyone at this point....LOL


I fall on the fence of moral or cultural advancement, most of the rest of the world does not harbor the values and beliefs that Western Europeans/Americans do. I was reading just yesterday how Ukrainian Women are kidnapped and sold for prostitution and distributed to Turkey for turkish sex slave shops. Apparently Ukrainians will kidnap their own for money and either sale them to turkes or arabs or to other Ukrainians themselves. Now you can not tell me that, racial identity means a damn thing when it comes to money and selfishness to live by any means no matter the moral cost or lack there of apparently.

Race seems to not be the issue, I think it is the values of a particular culture that an individual adopts that fosters hatred. Just my thoughts though, I am by no means anthropologically or culturally educated in any formal manner. That is my personal observation of how the world works in my jaded views probably. There is just to much bad that people do to one another.

Thanks brotha! I've lived a very interesting life and have experienced much. It's my pleasure to answer questions if it can help people have a constructive conversation about race and break down some stereotypes. But, I am half white but in an odd way. Both my parents are half white, so that makes me half white right? LOL!!!! But like I've always said, you could never tell by looking at me. But because of how I look dictates how I've been treated my entire life. When people see me they don't see a biracial man, they see a large black man!!

LIke I said in my past posts, racism exists in every race. Many blacks are just as racists as whites. Now we can debate the reasons for racism when it comes to particular races, but can you justify racism no matter what the reason? I think not.

Anyway, when it comes to Mormons, in my studies of different types of Christianity and the enormous amount of Mormons here in Vegas (believe or not Vegas was founded by Mormons, I can also explain to you why at another time) I've tried to educate myself on what I've heard about their culture. Unfortunately racism has a large place in Mormon history.

If you noticed lately Mormons actually have a PR campaign trying to distance themselves from both their polygamist past and their racist past. Gladys Knight (from Gladys Knight and the Pips) is their spokesperson as they try to recruit more African Americans. So, like the Catholics and their support of slavery, eventually they may overcome their racist past, but its a history I can not yet overlook.

I was 18 and snuck into this bar after a baseball tourny way out of town with a buddies ID and was talking with this extremely attractive girl for probably two hours or so. I thought she was going to be my wife. I am not into the hump and dump thing at all and she was amazing. As it was I was 18, very young and very un-cultured. I am from the midwest and grew up cowboys and indians, John Wayne, shoot em up and America F^ck Yeah! You know what I mean.

So I am talking to this girl and through the course of the night I am making wedding plans in my head and babies and all, little left handed pitcher boys the whole nine yards. Keep in mind I am 18, from way out of town and getting extremely drunk and dont know it. The kind that sneaks up on you, that I am sure we have all had. We are doing shot after shot, me, her, a few of my baseball buddies, just drinking. I make the comment that she should slow down or she would get sick. She laughs at me and says she can handle her liquor. But you know, I have heard this a thousand times before from a girl about how much she can drink and then next thing you know she is face down in a pool of her own vomit and tears, calling up the dinosaurs, selling Buuiiiiccckkksss, whatever. As it turns out, I am the one that had to go to the bathroom to vomit, and man did I vomit and vomit and when there was no more left I vomited again. I washed my mouth out, cleaned myself up and like any true warrior went back to drinking with her.

Again the point about her being able to drink endlessly is now starting to weigh heavily on my drunkin, love struck mind. One of the senior baseball players from my college team pulls me aside and tells me how good I am doing with this chick and how she told everyone at the table how much she liked me and all while I was away chasing Brontosauruses in the toilet. For me to be a college frosh and the senior captain to say he was proud of me was huge, I cant underscore that point enough. I get cocky, she starts bragging about drinking and I again am going shot for shot. Keep in mind I have snuck off to the bathroom a time or two at this point and she seems un phased. I ask her how can she drink so much, she says that she has drank two bottles of Tequila before. I call BS, she is emphatic. I said that would kill a normal person. She laughs and says well yeah not from where I come from.

Ok if your still following this rambling story, I am batting 1.000 with this girl until................"what do you mean where you come from? what are you, Indian?!?
Boom, game over, thrown out at home, lose the game, cost the team a win. She replies yeah, I am! you got a f^cking problem with that or something?

Its like the music stopped playing, the lights went out and they close the bar doors. It got so quiet all of a sudden. In my drunkin, naive, uncultured, and youthful moment that was the only thing that popped in my head to say. Not sure why, still dont know to this day. Probably the repulsive, negative tv images or whatever of native americans in the past that had sprung that though. I was not able to recover she walked out, no wife, no kids to this day. It was her man I am telling you, she was it.

Now my buddies all look at me after she leaves and where like, WTF. Why would you say something like that. I senior captain is Cherokee Nation, but happens to have green eyes. The catcher for the team is full blooded Apache from Oklahoma and our third basemen is Part Navajo from New Mexico. I could obviously tell she was not white. I thought she was asian or maybe even hispanic. I didn't really care, that shit doesn't matter to me. But what I failed to relies is that we were drinking at a bar and playing or baseball tournament right outside a Kiowa Indian Reservation. She worked at the hotel and was going home early that night to the reservation until she met me. I kept her from going home for four or more hours because she really liked me until I made one stupid ignorant comment.

Sorry for the long post but it underscores the importance of people knowing about people. I was 18 and honestly didnt know a dang bit better than to say something like that. I had never met an "Indian" before moving away to college. I am from a german protestant immigrant community, when people know that I can somewhat understand and speak some german dialect unique to southern germany they ask me if I am a Nazi. That is so offensive to me now. But at 18 I wouldn't have been offended I would have even said, yeah Jerry bastards we sure kicked their Leberkäse (literally means liver cheese but is actually neither) eating asses. Now that I am older, more mature and have more experiences I look back and see just how offensive what I said was.

Reading your post popped that memory of a time in my life that for those few words my life could have been much much different. I still see her beautiful flawless face vividly 10+ years later. The shattered look of hurt and disappointment HAUNTS me the most.

Sinbad is another funny MoFo... he was asked one time why he never uses profanity in his act, and he replied that his mom comes to all his shows, and if he used language like that, she would whoop the living hell out of him.

Now look at Bill Cosby... he is funny as hell, never uses profanity, and has elevated himself above the stereo typical role most black comedians find themselves in. Although not "rare", not very common either. Bill Cosby is very unique. He started out with comedy, but has dabbled in almost everything. Personally, I don't consider him a comedian anymore, although he most certainly can do that. He is much broader than that, and shouldnt' be pidgeon holed into something as restrictive as a "comedian" label.

I have traveled the world, or at least some parts of it, and I know for a "fact" that racism is everywhere. The good ol' US of A is one of the less racist than most.
Example:
Japan hates everybody
China/Korea/Other Asian Countries Hate Japan
Brits are "wary" of Muslims
Germans dislike Turks (or at least when I was there)
Afghanistan does not like Pakistan

I can not think of a single country (maybe Switzerland?) that isn't racist against one country or another.

The difference between many of those countries and the US is that in the US, there is this concept called "Recourse". If you have been discriminated against, you can do something about it. It's not perfect (dont' gang up on me mates), but it's better than most. We also have some of the most vocal critics of our system in the US, and our citizens have a greater sense of entitlement than most.

But racism is everywhere, it has always been present, and I suspect, to some degree, it will always be with us. The key here is recourse. A society, for it to be successful, needs to provide it's citizens recourse.

Honestly the vast majority of blacks do believe he did it (or at the very least believe he was responsible for it). The issue with OJ to us is this: But first let me say this, OJ hasn't been black since he won the heisman trophy, lol! Anyway, blacks supported OJ simply because of the it was finally a blackman beating the whites at their own game. He beat the establishment using money and popularity. How many times in history has a white guy gotten off for murdering a blackman? Plus it was so close to the Rodney King verdict. So OJ's guilt or innocence wasn't an issue. With OJ, we felt we'd finally won.

No it's still the Ask the Black Man thread. So I'll answer the question. Chicken was one of the very few livestock species slaves were able to own. And because of the long hours blacks worked in the field, cooking meats in lard was quick and it was easy. Thereby the popularity of fried chicken. Watermelon is popular among blacks because it is popular in many west African nations. Slaves smuggled seeds over during the middle passage and planted them in their own gardens since slaves weren't afforded the luxury of many fruits from their slave owners. Usually slaves were given scraps from their owners so they made due with what they had. That is another reason why blacks eat pigs feet, pig ears, chittlings, biscuits and gravy, and cabage.

I think the Balkans (Bosnia, Serbia, Croatia, Albania, Kosovo) are by far the most racist, fascist, and nationalist especially. Nationalism cannot be any worse then in these countries. But they are all welcoming to foreigners, just not each other..

This isn't necessarily a black thing, but a hood/family thing. Many hispanics feel the same way. Its inate in the black community to stay close to home and take care of your Mom and everyone else. The mentality of leaving the hood you grew up shows you don't care about where you are from. Its a feeling that if you leave, you've sold out. The buying of cars and flashy jewelry is no difference then white people buying the latest, greatest, tv set, or riding lawn mower. They are status symbols. The better the car, the more status you have in the neighborhood. Not saying its right, but that's the mentality.

I thought she was going to be my wife. I am not into the hump and dump thing at all and she was amazing. As it was I was 18, very young and very un-cultured. I am from the midwest and grew up cowboys and indians, John Wayne, shoot em up and America F^ck Yeah! You know what I mean.

So I am talking to this girl and through the course of the night I am making wedding plans in my head and babies and all, little left handed pitcher boys the whole nine yards. Keep in mind I am 18, from way out of town and getting extremely drunk and dont know it. The kind that sneaks up on you, that I am sure we have all had. We are doing shot after shot, me, her, a few of my baseball buddies, just drinking. I make the comment that she should slow down or she would get sick. She laughs at me and says she can handle her liquor. But you know, I have heard this a thousand times before from a girl about how much she can drink and then next thing you know she is face down in a pool of her own vomit and tears, calling up the dinosaurs, selling Buuiiiiccckkksss, whatever. As it turns out, I am the one that had to go to the bathroom to vomit, and man did I vomit and vomit and when there was no more left I vomited again. I washed my mouth out, cleaned myself up and like any true warrior went back to drinking with her.

Again the point about her being able to drink endlessly is now starting to weigh heavily on my drunkin, love struck mind. One of the senior baseball players from my college team pulls me aside and tells me how good I am doing with this chick and how she told everyone at the table how much she liked me and all while I was away chasing Brontosauruses in the toilet. For me to be a college frosh and the senior captain to say he was proud of me was huge, I cant underscore that point enough. I get cocky, she starts bragging about drinking and I again am going shot for shot. Keep in mind I have snuck off to the bathroom a time or two at this point and she seems un phased. I ask her how can she drink so much, she says that she has drank two bottles of Tequila before. I call BS, she is emphatic. I said that would kill a normal person. She laughs and says well yeah not from where I come from.

Ok if your still following this rambling story, I am batting 1.000 with this girl until................"what do you mean where you come from? what are you, Indian?!?
Boom, game over, thrown out at home, lose the game, cost the team a win. She replies yeah, I am! you got a f^cking problem with that or something?

Its like the music stopped playing, the lights went out and they close the bar doors. It got so quiet all of a sudden. In my drunkin, naive, uncultured, and youthful moment that was the only thing that popped in my head to say. Not sure why, still dont know to this day. Probably the repulsive, negative tv images or whatever of native americans in the past that had sprung that though. I was not able to recover she walked out, no wife, no kids to this day. It was her man I am telling you, she was it.

Now my buddies all look at me after she leaves and where like, WTF. Why would you say something like that. I senior captain is Cherokee Nation, but happens to have green eyes. The catcher for the team is full blooded Apache from Oklahoma and our third basemen is Part Navajo from New Mexico. I could obviously tell she was not white. I thought she was asian or maybe even hispanic. I didn't really care, that shit doesn't matter to me. But what I failed to relies is that we were drinking at a bar and playing or baseball tournament right outside a Kiowa Indian Reservation. She worked at the hotel and was going home early that night to the reservation until she met me. I kept her from going home for four or more hours because she really liked me until I made one stupid ignorant comment.

Sorry for the long post but it underscores the importance of people knowing about people. I was 18 and honestly didnt know a dang bit better than to say something like that. I had never met an "Indian" before moving away to college. I am from a german protestant immigrant community, when people know that I can somewhat understand and speak some german dialect unique to southern germany they ask me if I am a Nazi. That is so offensive to me now. But at 18 I wouldn't have been offended I would have even said, yeah Jerry bastards we sure kicked their Leberkäse (literally means liver cheese but is actually neither) eating asses. Now that I am older, more mature and have more experiences I look back and see just how offensive what I said was.

Reading your post popped that memory of a time in my life that for those few words my life could have been much much different. I still see her beautiful flawless face vividly 10+ years later. The shattered look of hurt and disappointment HAUNTS me the most.

My mother was adopted by german parents. She is nearly 100% lakota, my dad is 100% norwegian. Everyone assumes I have Native american in me but in the summer I look like cheif sitting bull lol.

Not growing up near a reservation, I was never expossed to a lot of the hardship of it. I really didnt learn anything about my heritage untill I was 18 really.

There some debate between Latinos and blacks about the origin of low riders. I believe to be a Latino thing more than a black thing. Its always been huge on the west coast and southwest. The brothas down south just recently got into the game about 15yrs ago. And it's not that big on the east coast...yet!!! I've never been into the low lows though. I'm a country boy and I love my big truck lifted up and big tires...even if they are on 22" rims! LOL!!!! Not very many brothas into that.

why is it, black go on and on about how they are so unfortunate and how its "hard being black in america" or that whites have it set up to keep the black man down. yet, if they havent noticed, white men are the only persons classified as "unprotected" by the government. meaning if there was ONE job left in the U.S. and there was a white man and a black man who both applied for it, the black guy would get it just cause he is black and deemed "protected" . dont you think that kinda makes 98% of blacks just look clueless and ignorant when they go on about such non-sense?

also, if its sooo hard being black in america, and yall have it soooo bad, then why is it every time i look at traffic, i see blacks driving new BMW's, new Mercedes , and NEW everything else. yet, i see whites driving old, broke down stuff on usually a 5-1 average. meaning, its 5 times more likley for me to see a black person in something new or fancy, than it is for me to see a white person driving it?
another thing, the whole blacks have bigger peckers..i call BS and there are tests to prove this. white male on avaerage is 5.5", blacks have an average of 5.4".
