I'm 190lbs. How much protein should I take in throughout the course of a day?
Isn't there a rule of thumb for each pound of weight an amount of grams?

I shoot for 1.2 grams per lb of desired body weight.
Everyone is different.. no one can tell you an exact number.....
Also, it depends on whether you're using gear or not...
1.5 grams for every pound of lean body mass.
Your wieght divided by 1.XXX (XXX= you BF %) = Lean body mass.
I'm 6'1 190lbs and I have no idea what my BF is. Any tricks to Body Fat? or do I have to get hooked up.
I'm not using any gear either that's way, way down the road.
Finally, carbs_rule you said I shoot for 1.2 grams per lb of desired body weight
so does that mean 190lbsx1.2grams=228grams a day? That's an f'ing lot of tuna! lol. no wonder I saw some guy post about a tuna shake he was so tired of chewing.
228 is nothing, I know there are guys on here that take in probably 600g a day. I myself take in 400.
1.5-2g of protein per pound is needed.
I take in about 300-325g per day and I weigh 195. When I was on cycle I shot for 400.
Bodyfat percentage can be determined by underwater weighing (hard to find facilities that do this) or skin fold measurements. The skinfold calipers are inaccurate though, and those scales that do bodyfat are just plain garbage.
yeah, 228 is not that much really. If you have 6 meals spread out ar 40 grams each, you'll get that. If I am trying to gain mass I'd probably do 8 meals at 40 each. I've read that you should eat more protein when cutting, but I find it more counterproductive if anything due to the extra calories.
Shoot for AT LEAST 1.5 gram per pound of body weight. Like AandF said you can have up to 2-2.5
