I usually try to refrain from asking stupid, pointless questions, but I'm curious. How does the gear get inside the amp? The only thing I can think of is that the gear is poured into the amp and the amp head is added later, but amps look like one uniform mold to me. Anyone know?

The amps originally have the tops open. After filling, the glass is melted and it collapses onto itself. The shape of the head is such that the hole closes up as the glass softens, and the amp is sealed. You can do this yourself with a small torch and an empty amp. There are online sources for buying them. Make a holder out of a bit of copper tubing and a wooden dowel for a handle. This makes it easier to smoothly rotate the amp with the end in the flame. The tip of the blue part is where it is hottest. Try this with empty ones first, before attempting this withoil in the amp, and never overfill. This is just an academic exercise of no particular practical usefulness, but it is a fun thing to do if you are bored some day. Commercial setups are much more equipment-intensive and give more consistent results once everything is in adjustment.
