a+, n+, security+, xp admin, network admin.
a+ hardware is cake, software is a little harder. if you study hard over a weekend you can pass it no problem. security+ is tougher than the other 2. just make sure you know it through and through. i have to get these certs in order to continue in my degree at school.

I'm lost?? are these courses to get certified in?? if they are how long are they and do any universties offer them or is it a tech school thing.?
I have my MCSE (Windows NT), A+, Bunch of Compaq, IBM, specific certs, CNE
I never took any classes for my certs. Just bought the books and took the tests. I got my MCSE and A+ all in 4 months. I was a consultant at the time and they needed so many MCSE certs to keep a contract.
I've been doing IT work since 96
hey mud what kind of IT do you do?
I do a lot of Windows, Unix, Linux, SUN, HP-UX server admin work. I do support for a R&D lab at my company.Originally Posted by kloter1

i have lots of experience but no certs yet. just started on my a+ last week cuz its mando. then ill work on network+ cuz its mando. ive taken unix admin classes, c++ classes, perl classes, computer forensics classes, ccna classes... just never taken any certs. certs look good on paper, but experience is worth more...thats what ive found to be true at least.
I have Net+ A+ Novell Mcse and I am studying for Cisco..Originally Posted by 305GUY
Dude do yourself a favor and skip Net+ and just get your MCSE and then CCNA or CCNEOriginally Posted by decadbal
You are correct to an extent. Alot of company's will ask for a certain cert to weed out during a hireing process. Just get the cert(s) for the areas you work in. Myself, I have Network + (pointless), CCNA, CCNP..because I work on mainly cisco gear. Been in the IT/Telco industry for a good 9 years now. Right now I mainly work on Cisco SONET gear.Originally Posted by max2extreme

A+, Net+, security+, and a very feeble attempt at the CCNA.
Mad props to everyone who passes that one!
ironmike, you should see the new CCNA exam, I heard its nutz. We have a guy at work that had 2 cracks at it in the last month. Score- Test: 2 Worker: 0
Good thing I took it while I was still in college (and the test was alot easier).
I really hate certs... But, to be fair, I think they can help someone if you are trying to break into the field.
MCSE, CCNA, CCNP, Sun Solaris Certified Admin, A+, Net+, Security+ , working on my CCSP,
Certs are alright, I hate when you have to rewrite every few years.
What I always thought was funny was that the vendors are the ones that say you need the certs to be proficient with their product.
mcse + internet (IIS)((NT)
A+, N+
CCA (Citrix admin)
Lots of IBM hardware/proprietary software certs for desktop/server hardware
Helpdesk analyst cert, from the "helpdesk institute" which was really hard actually...i failed it the first time...LOL
ive been workin with computers for over 10 years

So far i have my networking degree but no certs..i find the A+ is a waste of time as my degree alone holds more water than that, the certs i am interested in are CCNA (to start) and possibly MCSE if a job required it.

A lot of IT people here! I have my MCSE (NT & 2k), CCNA, CCA (Citrix), and A+. I am an independent consultant for small biz's. Been doing it for about 9 years. I still think experience counts more, but a lot of hiring folks don't know this, so it always helps to get your foot in the door.
i got mcse nt and 2k , ccna, cna (novel), and A+. Been slacking on getting teh 2k3 upgrade. Been working in IT for 6 years. I'm a systems administrator.
