Who here is in the military?

I was just a little curious as to how many bodybuilders here serve in the military. I just signed my contract this monday and it got me thinking.

I enlisted in the Army. Active duty for the next 4 years. Curious as to what will happen with my dieting and weightlifting habits. I'm sure people have had different experiences depending on their M.O.S. and what branch they serve in. So to anyone here that serves, what's your bb life like?

Bump. I'm curious too. I'm thinking about enlisting in the Canadian Army. Yup, apparently we have an army. Wondering how everyone enjoyed it. I thinking about a radio specialist... or in comunications through them too. My dentist did it, and he loved it.

start of continue your cardio, and endurance is most important.. the mental strain that comes from over training is the worst..

you must develop the ability to perform under stress.. physical 1st, then mental..

    USAF 10 yrs..

    good luck

I'd say that it depends a great deal on your MOS, but during basic you will not see a gym (unless you are one of these remedial PT lard asses they let in) If you are in a non combat MOS and work and live on a base then your life won't be much different that it probably is now, you can train after work, access to supplements. I think the biggest problem is frequncy of meals. I worked in Iraq as a contractor 2003-2004, and we evetually got some weights, but 6 meals a day is a little tough in primative conditions, unless you really like detour bars, stallone pudding, tuna right out of the can, and protein powder mixed with warm water...

Congratulations on your enlistment and thank you for your service.

I was originally looking into the marines but talked to some paratroopers from the 82nd and decided that's what I wanted to do. They almost talked me into intelligence because of my ASVAB score, but the idea of sitting behind a desk decrypting communications didn't sound like fun. So I enlisted as an 11B, Infantryman, and got the contract written so that after my 13 week basic I go to airborne school, and then take the 10 day course to become air assault, and then SF. Special Forces has a higher drop out rate than B.U.D.S. training these days. I hope I can make it.

Hey, to the guys that serve, what about gear? I would imagine that depends on your M.O.S. as well as where you get stationed. I doubt I could pull it off in Iraq, but it looks like I'll be spending a bit of time with the 101st in Kentucky. I guess I'll just have to see.

military training is fvckin brutal, basic training will be easy, that'll be just an intro to the military & military life, your MOC training will be hard though - just a hint - NEVER WORRY ABOUT WHAT THEY SAY FOR INSPECTIONS that's designed to demoralize you and see how you react under continual stress... so no worries

In the field, drink as much water as you can, use any spare time to sleep

    take care bro, have fun

In the military you don't always get time to eat like you want or lift when you want. But the Marines puts a lot of stress into being physically in shape - so they are likely to let you go for PT during "duty hours"... and you have to be a little creative out in the field (beware of beef jerky - a lot of sodium!)... I used to do rows with sand bags supersetted with the pull ups... Marines tend to keep pull up bars everywhere. If you have a chow hall on camp - it's buffet choices for food!

Overseas contractor has been pretty good. Nice gym provided on base and the Dining Facility always has like 6 ways to eat chicken

the military is not that bad bro, dont go and start using rec drugs. as long as your cool about everything youll be able to use all the anabolics you want. just stay in the gym in your off time, it is noticed. they will think of you as a weight lifter not a juicer.

I'm looking forward to it. Nice picture GQ-Bouncer.

I am a big guy though. Not for Bodybuilder standards mind you, but as far as army standards are concerned. 6'2" 218 14%bf. I spend the next 6 weeks dietig so I should be under 10% when I go in. 13 weeks of basic is going to be rough on all this new muscle I just earned, but hopefully it will come back quick once I'm out of boot.

    hooah!

Yes sir, went from a lean 19 year old at 205 pounds to a 178lbs crack-head lookin' Marine in 3 months! I was buyin' 32" fuking pants after boot camp...

You see the big guys trying to sneak food to keep their weight up - but the Drill Instructors end up killin' everyone for it... so in the end you burn more calories runnin' around the hooch all night... and then face the wrath of your peers... but you'll get it back...

That is not very comforting but I guess I better get used to it. I already wear 34" pants and will probably be wearing 32" by the time I get in. The fact that I'm a huge endomorph might help me a little but I know I will still lose a lot. Whatever it takes.

People say it's obsession. I call it dedication.

when i went through basic i came out the leanest (and lightest ) i'd ever been in my life. yeah no gym in basic all endurance, cardio based.

if your in infantry based position training routine is set , iguess u could do extra when not deployed. when deployed or out bush diet rations xpect to loose kgs,lbs whatever.

Don't give up on your SF thing man, do it now while you can.. I try to be as high speed as I can and I still got stuck in a platoon that has nothing to do with my job!! But had to go thru basic for 19D weighing 205lbs I ate as much food as I could and still lost 12 lbs..
