    Anybody in Finance?

Was thinking about switching my major to Finance (already in Business, but different specialization). I know there are many areas, was just wondering about personal experience as far as the work environment and job opportunity. I was thinking about going into corporate finance.

A buddy of mine who just graduated said there is a lot of competition, especially because people with communications degrees go into marketing (tons of communication grads). Also, entry level positions are mostly in sales and very competitive.

My buddies brother lives in San Diego now selling mortgages for real estate and makes 300,000-400,000k/year doing that. He graduated in 98' with a finance degree. That area seems appe****g as well.
    Any more feedback?

The only specialization that are really worthy in the B.COMM program are Finance and Accounting. In Marketing, Economics, P.O.M., M.I.S., International Business, etc. The jobs are not as commen and to get a excellent job you must excel. Finance is great, especially if you get good GPA, you can go into investment banking. Get into wallstreet and youre set.

I would love to get into investment banking. I realized all the other degrees weren't as great, thats why I think I'm gonna make the switch. I haven't taken many specialized finance classes, but I have done accounting. I've heard its difficult, but def gonna be worth it. I'm rolling with a 3.5 right now, hopefully I can maintain or raise it. Stats isn't helping at all with that.

Find a local brokrage (not a bank). Most are willing to hire without experience now that the refi boom is over. They will take an unfair amount of your money(you will be paid a portion of the fees you charge). But hell they are teaching you a very profitable business and that is worth something. Then move on to a new place....you will be able to negotiate a better rate of pay.

    I'm close.

Economics BA, Math Bs, Minors in Finance, and Poli sci.

I'm hoping to be an investment banker.

Much harder than just finance but also u need lots of knowledge to be good or a successful cfo, hence economics and math, very theoretical.

it allows you to have insight much greater when you do study finance.
