worst day in a long time

my car broke down, not sure what is wrong with it, could be the engine, could be the clutch, could be both.. got stuck on the highway twice today. had to pya 170 bucks to have it towed to my mechanic which was 21 miles away.... ahh this sucks.
i hope my workout tonight goes well.....

the cars been burning oil about 800 miles before an oil change is due. the oil light blinks. well its been blinking for about a week now. i usually throw another quart in until i get the oil done again. well i was driving to work and my car just shut off on the highway at like 70mph. walked to the gas station and put 2 quarts into it. it started no problem. was a bit shaky. every time i came to a stop the car would shut off again. it would start right back up but every time i started driving agian there was a click under the hood that kept getting louder and louder like metal grinding. eventually it wouldnt drive at all. the car still does start everytime tho..

ya i got towing with my insurance. they told me to have it done and submit the bill. ya we will see how that goes..

not sure bro.... doesnt sound good that its burning that much oil..I am assuming its a stick since you think the clutch may b shot. if the engine is running at this point it may be the clutch or flywheel is cracked & when it gets hot makes the noises you are hearing.its hard to diagnose over the computer... just a possibility

My mechanic over the phone diagnosed it like this. as well as the tow truck driver. i research quickly and saw someone similar situation. someone replied with this..

Sounds like someone ran it out of oil at one stage because its your bottom end berrings and cam berrings have burnt the nickel lining off and is now running on metal so your engine needs a total rebuild or you might have to find another engine, Does it use oil? when you dissconnect the oil breather hose does it suck or blow?
do you loose any power through this noise?
does it grind or knock?

sounds very possible....it could be where its ok on a cold start or even warm start....but at operating temp the bearings cant handle the heat...hence your metal to metal grinding noise

I was going to say low oil as well which would = needing a new motor. When your motor shuts down like that its trying to "save" the car. When your oil pressure drops really low it should throw a check engine light then shut down the motor. Also not sure if you know this but putting in too much oil is just as bad as putting too little in. Good luck - cars suck.
