    Injection disaster

    Weird, painful problem:

Standard glute injection; upper, outer quadrant... However, PAIN lasting for a week, glute muscle clenching HARD... feels like someone whacked the muscle with a baseball bat.

Now, puffy soft "ball" (size of a grape) at injection site is MOVING DOWN THE GLUTE towards top of hamstring! WTF!!!

    WHAT'S UP!?

had same problem a few weeks ago. Week 2 of cycle. What kind of gear? Are you running a temperature? I had some left over prescription anti-inflamatories that really help it go down. Did you asperate?

    Test. and Deca.

Did not asperate. It's pretty hard to see what's going on "back there" in the syringe on a glute shot.

    No fever.

Bro,quite honestly there is NO reason for NOT aspirating...if you can take the time to inject take an xtra second to aspirate...make it to where you can aspirate its not healthy to inject INTO a vein bro......put some hot compresses on that and it should disipate in a couple of days..

I agree with Bigmax, bro, you need to take an extra second to make sure you are not hiting a vein. Hope you get better bro

If you are having trouble seeing bro use a mirror, just stand in front of that bad doggie, you'll know if blood is going in that pin believe me. Better to be safe.

Out of the 100's of IM injections I've given throughout the years, I had never hit a blood vessel. Almost enough to make you think it doesn't happen, but then it did to me the other night. I was just glad that I follow strict procedures every time.

So what you're all saying is that I HIT A VEIN?

Big bump under the skin. Moving around. Feels like a hit from an aluminum baseball bat.

Hit a NERVE??? Didn't go DEEP ENOUGH???? Oil is not DISBURSING under the skin????

So, when you hit your vein, you got symptoms like I described?

Hitting a vein makes the oil not disipate? I thought not aspirating, and putting the oil directly into the vein, lead to "Tren-cough", etc.

No hitting a vein will not cause this. That was totaly wrong.

You are correct about the cou***ng. If you hit a vein you will be cou***ng in seconds.

If you it a nerve, you will feel the sensation all down your leg. The best I can describe it is like an electrical charge.

Aspiration is when you gently pull back on the plunger of the needle to see if blood goes into the syringe. Make sure you do this every time you inject. If no blood goes into it, you are good... if blood enters the needle, you are probally in a vein. If you hit a vein, and shot it, you'd get a nasty taste in the back of your throat before the cough and fever kick in.

Not an aspiration problem, I think.

So.... back to my actual symptoms:

Injection site feels like it was whacked hard, and there is a moving "bubble" under the skin that's going south.

It does not feel warm to the touch. Not running a fever either. Glute keeps "clenching", but not as bad as it did during the first two days. Area looks bruised, but not red.

Has anyone had these symptoms? I'm pretty sure it's not an aspiration problem.

Many thanks for the responses thus far.

No symptoms, I ALWAYS aspirate. Ibuprofen is decent for phlebitis and fever.

YES I THINK WERE ALL IN AGREEMENT ON THE NEED FOR ASPIRATION but to actually address the mans problem would also be helpful. I am far from an expert but it sounds to me like maybe you didnt use the right size needle. How long of a pin were you using and are you sure that you had it in all the way?

    Thank you!

Standard 1 1/2" pin, in all the way. Upper/outer quadrant, text-book injection.

    Hey Bro,
I've had this, injecting Test. E.
It was difficult to walk and sit, it actually has happened quite a few times, lump in my arse and painful.
Just watch that it doesn't get red/swollen or hot, it will go away after 4-5 days. I used 15 min heat the 15 min ice for an hour everyday.

Sounds like you damaged a blood vessel and it bled out a bit internally. The body will get rid of any trapped blood soon.

I may be completely wrong, ^^^thats just IMO

If it not warm to touch and red, swollen or you have a fever (temp), I'd assume it isnt an infection. Unless its any of these above, I highly doubt its an infection that needs to be addressed by way of anti-boitics, lancing or both.

What happens when you massage the area or place a heating pad on the site? Does this help with the pain?

I cant say I've had these symptoms, no.

Could you have injected too deep? How many times have you injected int he glute proir to this problem?

Even if you do inject incorrectly, does this effect the substance going into your system?

  27. #27
