    Navy Seal

Well I just signed my contract today for navy seals. I will be trying out as soon as im done college in 4 months. Was wondering should I cycle just before I go? My recuriter told me you consume about 4000 cal a day and still loss weight. I told him I cycled before and he said as long as no one asks then your ok. Been training for a whole year in water and out so im pretty sure ill make it. If anyone got some adivce lemme hear it

Im not gonna use it to bulk up just for speed and strength. I heard PJ was the hardest SOC out there

  7. #7
I have a buddy that cycled before he went in years ago and he made it, and it wasnt a bulk cycle. Stay lean. If you do, you should make sure you have enough time to do it and get your levels back to normal, IMO.

Personally, I'd stay away from ANY drugs right now. You gotta start thinking long term if you are gonna make it and I got some news for you, it won't matter how "in shape" you are physically, if you don't have what it takes upstairs, you'll never make it. The attrition rate isn't so high because it's easy and the physical tools are a VERY, VERY small portion of making it through BUD's.

I think the way they recruit personnel these days is a sham since they can't guarantee anyone to make it. But, it's the modern military and they have recruiting requirements. Make sure you have a solid MOS that you can see yourself doing for 4-5 years if you don't make it.

As far as the juice or cycling goes, let me part some wisdom on you. If you get attached to a Team after your completion of BUD's, there is a high likelihood of having to get a TS level security clearance which may include a thorough background check and a polygraph. And to get hung up on that after making it through the training phase is just completely stupid in my opinion. Save it for after you get on a Team and assigned to a coast, why would you risk it if it's what you wanna do????

I would spend all of my efforts on cardiovascular training, educating yourself on what to expect, maintaining lean body mass, and just raw power and strength. Going in even remotely bulked up is going to do nothing but ring you out.

As far as who's the toughest in the SpecOps world. There is no such thing because they all have different strengths and weaknesses and anyone who says otherwise needs to check their ego at the door. Good luck!

Damn, this is the first post I have put up int he lounge in a couple of years I think

Hey Doc M thanks for the adivce. I already passed the physical screening test. When I meant Pj where the hardest soc I meant training. Since I am going as soon as I graduate college there is going to be alot of pressure on me. My recuiter told me that you will have to lead a team since you are a college graduate. This puts alot of weight on my shoulders and I wanted to be the best physically and mentally prepared. When you are a team leader you are singled out the most. 3 strikes and your out

I wouldn't go so far as to say just as hard as BUDS. But PJ's are some tuff guys.

I've seen many long distance runners and swimmers ring that bell long before some of the hard headed guys with beer guts. It's more mental than anything else. The fact that you are going through all of these exercises for years when all of your friends are working 8 hours a day and chasing tail all night will be enough to make you want to quit after the first 2 months alone. You have to keep your eye on the prize and tell yourself that the worst they can do to you is kill you. All the push ups and sit ups in the world won't prepare you for those 6 months but they won't hurt. BTW, the diving part was the most difficult part for most people that made it that far.

Before you can sign up for buds there is a physical screening test
    Swim 500 Yards within 12:30
    Rest 10:00
    42 push-ups within 2:00
    Rest 2:00
    50 sit-ups within 2:00
    Rest 2:00
    6 pull-ups (no time limit)
    Rest 10:00
    1.5 mile run within 11:00

when I posted the push ups I posted it from my results for my screening test.

Exactly. I remember that everyone who showed up talking about how they were training since such and such an age were usually the first to quit. When that happens, everyone chimes in, "Hey, weren't you the guy who told us all how hard and long you've trained for this?" Everyone gets THE FEAR at BUDS.

Please Lexed, tell me you haven't already got the Budweiser tattooed on your deltoid or been telling the chubby girls at the bar you're gonna be a SEAL...

Best advice is to stay under the radar and keep your mouth shut. Oh, and most guys who say "I wanna be a SEAL!" don't make it because they're in love with the idea of being a SEAL, but can't see beyond the Trident. You gotta love the job - not the job title.

CSAR i wouldnt really be making those statements since you have no idea what I am like in real life and my training. I took 4 years of navy rotc. Our commander was a former navy seal. I trained 3-4 times a week with him in the water and out for 4 years. During the summer we would do a "hell week". Which is basically 5.5 days non stop physical testing designed to test your mentally and physically ability. Within those 5.5 days we would get only 6 hours of sleep. I worked my ass off for 4 years so pleasee when you make a statement like that have something to back it up.

the funny thing about this thread is that its about BUD/S and how hard it is yet when you think about it all the crazy shit starts after you make it through,

esp in this day and age with iraq, I cant imagine what a day in the life would be like for someone in SF's.

    crazy......

Bro how did you get a contract for the navy seals? things must have changed since I was in boot camp.

They gave us a job in writing and then we had to volunteer and be chosen for the seal program.

I don't need to know what you are like in real life. It's already a proven fact (research done by the Navy in conjunction with the Psych D e pts. at UCSD and SDSU) that the majority of DOR's exhibit the type of behavior you're exhibiting right now.

I earned my brown shirt, where's yours? Is that backing it up for you enough? Until you walk the walk, you're just a wanna be.

they are going to break you, you cant prepare for that. if you are more mentally strong it will just take day or 2 longer, but they are going to break you.

Hey Lexed... I was in the Navy 4 years and one of my best buds went through SEAL hell week and didn't make it. It is seriously one of the most difficult things you will ever physically do, if not the most difficult you'll ever do.

One thing I would recommend is to not get ENTIRELY shredded before you go bro. Get a decent amount of bodyfat since the water at Coronado is pretty fkin cold! One of the biggest things that causes people to fail is hypothermia. Also, having some fat stores will help with energy since you get hardly any sleep at all.

That is my take on it... it was always a lingering thought in my head to tryout for them but I'm way too ectomorphic and I knew the water would kill me. I also had SEAL Team 9 on my carrier on my second ***loyment and worked out frequently with them. Upper body strength isn't so much of a concern as ENDURANCE IS. Those dudes had legs like tree trunks and seriously would run at like 9mph for an hour on the treadmills. They always did psycho shit with stamina and physically none of them really even resembled body-builders, but more like incredible athletes that do Iron Man stuff. Good luck and definately keep us posted when its all said and done!

Oh, Lexed... you will get nothing even close to 6 hours of sleep during Hell Week. Your body will feel so incredibly terrible that you can't even imagine it until it happens. People become so physically exhausted that if hypothermia doesn't get you your immune system promptly fails and a lot of guys get pneumonia and all sorts of other shit. Mentally, quite a few of the tryouts can probably hack it but physically it is impossible. Thats what happened to my bud anyways, he became very sick with pneumonia and was forced to quit.

I watched this show on fit tv over seal training, re-dic-oulus,

one part that stood out in my mind was they had two man swim teams and they had to swim for some crazy ass distance, only one team made it.

the one guy was totally fine, could answear questions but his partner couldnt answear where he was, I dont think he even remembered his own name, he just stared off in the distance after the swim like he was in mild shock.

i think they said the water was just over 50 degrees or something like that.

    wow, not for me.....

also, once you make it through training, how long do you get to be an active seal? is it only for a couple of years or can you keep doing it as long as you want?

Just try not to be too fragile emotionally, sometimes they might yell at you and it probably won't help if you start crying and arguing about what a stud you are.

I'm doing CCT in the Air Force, which has similar training to SEALs and I won't be leaving until September now (it was going to be June), so I'm starting a new rigorous schedule.

I'm lifiting 1.5-2hrs a day, I'm swimming 500m every other day, I'm starting an MMA class, and I'm doing yoga 5 days a week. I'm increasing my calories a little bit but spreading out my meals even more. I want to be 280lbs at 6% bodyfat by the time I leave for basic training, but I'll be the quickest 280lbs motherf*cker you've ever seen! lol

Good luck to everyone else on here going into the military
