Need advice.

I have a secondary source right now. In other words my friend gets me what I need and deals with the primary source, while I sit in the background.
Now while this is safer from a legal point of view, it is really frustrating having to go through my friend and not communicate directly with the source. I have to wait for long periods for my friend to get in contact and deliver, and some information gets lost in translation (like the game telephone).
I would much rather deal directly with the source but my friend claims the source doesn't want to be 'known'...duh!
How do I convince my friend to convince the source that I am legit and not some narc or idiot who will go around blabbing about what I got and who I got it from?

I don't think this is the problem, my friend is well off and the prices are moderate. If he is making a markup, it isn't much. Hmmm...maybe that is why he is so damn slow about delivery and shit, not motivated.
Any ideas on how to cut out the middleman, or I am a basically screwed and should find a new source.
