    Late night snacks

Ok, here is the situation... My diet consists of 6 meals a day panning out to be roughly around 3600 cal. a day.

Now, 3 nights a week I have to work 3rd shift, my last meal of the day is around 9pm, after about 4 - 5 hours at work (being around 1am or 2am), I am getting extremly hungry again. I am at work until 5am.

Does anyone have any suggestions on any late night snacks that will not bump my cal. up anymore than really necessary? I know of some things that I could eat, but I was wondering if anyone else had been in my situation and what they did. So far I have been just not eating anything.

What time do you wake up? I would say a lean protein source, such as eggs, chicken breast, or a packet of tuna.... But it depends on what your eating throughout the day.

I have 3 kids, I am up everyday by 8am. My meals look something like this...

8am - Egg whites, english muffin, whey protein
10am - tuna, flax seed oil
12pm - Turkey and Whole Wheat bread, 3 eggs, whey protein
3pm - tuna, flax seed oil
5pm - Turky and Whole Wheat bread, tortilla and mushrooms, english muffin, whey protein
7pm - Rice cakes, whey protein
9pm - whey protein, flax seed oil

Well, I guess your getting enough tuna... Throw in a chicken breast or maybe some oatmeal. While you are still up, I dont see why it would hurt to keep feeding your body. Your body really needs the rest, but I know taking care of the family comes first.

Yeah, I might try to eat some oatmeal, that way I am not eating too much before I do get a chance to go to sleep.

Thanks bro, I was glad you didn't say celery

Haha, that would be a good choice, as well as any other green leafy vegetable. I'm not a big celery eater, but have been trying lately. It tastes like cardboard. I have also been chopping some cucumbers as a snack. I have just started revamping my own diet, and trying to force myself to eat more vegetables.

Yeah, I should eat some greens more often, I like them, I just don't incorporate them into my diet like I should. My main goal has been muscle mass and weight loss, I have been trying to take in as much protein as possible while keeping my cal. and carb intake down....... it's hard, I keep worrying that if I eat late at night I am going to be adding unessesary weight... I don't know.

why not just take your daily macros and split them into 7 or 8 meals for the day instead of trying to cramm more in???

Cottage cheese is perfect before bed, 1 serving. Also about 5 egg whites and a serving of almonds.
