    For you Metallica fans...

Their new cd "Death Magnetic" is SIIICK! Finally back to that old Metallica sound that they went away from the past couple albums.

most of the good bands were inspired by the old school swedish metal bands like at the gates etc.

metallica did some good things in the past but the music world has moved so far ahead of what they're capable of.

I dont think I have ever heard any swedish bands before. I should correct my statement, most American metal bands were influenced by Metallica.....LOL

I agree though Metallica's day of being the best band around is long gone. But hey they still play there old stuff at concerts and they put on one hell of a show to this day.

I hope thats a goddamn joke! Wow...let me tune down to B and keep the distortion on 10 and have the producer polish the **** out of the sound during mastering.

    Nothing special whatsoever..let alone original.

okay, disregard the obvious talent in guitar and drumming if you want. its miles ahead of what metallica does.

ive seen them live and they sound dead on.

Metallica was bad ass until In Justice for ALL. Then it went downhill. The black album was trendy power ballad butt rock. After that album, well, it was all overproduced mtv sound-of-the-week poopoo.

Hope their new album DOES sound like their old stuff.

BTW, Kirk Hammet has/had the only skill in that band. The drums are intermediate at best. Everyone copied them 20 years ago, now they laugh at them.

OHOHOHOHO! and (one more thing). They were busting everyones balls about napster and COPYING MUSIC right? And at the same time, let out 3 to 4 cover songs, because they were only cranking out garbage. If you release 4 covers on your album, its time to throw in the towel.

So we got to hear Bob Seager and Lynard Skinnerd Metallica covers???? BLASPHEMY. Not only is that totaly hipocracy, but it makes my ears bleed feces to hear james Shitfield sing Bob seager songs.

    That is all.

Theres surely bands with better vocals, there are bands that had harder and faster guitar. But no band in Metallica's day could combine both the way Metallica could with the perfect blend as they did.

You did and to tell you the truth it hurt... haha

Make fun of St. Anger all you want.,..that was the most pathetic excuse for an album ever recorded. This new one has hints of puppets and their new style. I will make my final opinion on it once I hear the album and can get good audio quality. So far sounds like they have good tone and crunch this time. St. Anger was weak all around.

Metallica should've gotten out while they were on top===>...and justice for all!

Amorphic, you a fan of Between the Buried and Me? Now that's a talented band IMO.

I'm surprised. I thought you definitely would've heard of them. They're a little hard to get used to at first, but totally worth it (kinda like Dillinger Escape Plan was, but better).

This is a great song but it's cut into two for some reason (probably cause it's 12 minutes long):
Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EpwjGIoK8Y (6:00 min mark is pretty sick)
    Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZSzQ...eature=related

    Prequel to the sequel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWNMMuQzm-A

    Selkies: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qgmtmjtmAwU

Mordecai: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STh01...eature=related (listen to the whole song before you dismiss it)

How could there be so much disrespect for a band that's been playing together for this long... I don't know one person that listens to heavy metal, not one! that did not like metallica... the only people that would talk trash and disrespect a legacy band like that were probably born in 1990 and have no clue about heavy metal and its origins.

chode logan, you call yourself a musician and talk trash about Metallica like that? you must be a poser or not a rock musician that's for sure. what instrument do you play? you probably wouldn't be able to play a lot of metallica's songs note for note much less create something like that.

i don't listen to any of their new stuf either, but I for sure wouldn't be calling them scrubs..wtf?? they made heavy metal popular, from Black Sabbath....

Duuuuuuuuuuude, easy there. I told you I started playing guitar because of Metallica, and if it wasn't for them we wouldn't have heavy music sound the way it is. But I'm also not one to bow down to a band just because what they are. In my opinion that sets the standard even HIGHER than other bands, and my opinion they should have thrown in the towel a decade ago and left the world with a good taste in it's mouth.

And please don't question what I do musically, I have nothing to prove. I am a lead guitar player, to answer your question. And not that I really care but (again, cause you called me out) I can play the majority of Metallica songs, I havn't for years but that's all I did when I was 14 years old....

I view music objectively not sentimentally, when a band I love makes music that I hate, I have no problem mentioning it.

"The only band I can think of influenced by At the Gates would be Darkest Hour who sound exactly like them"

That I'll have to disagree with. They influenced the Haunted (well, they're half of the members ha. SICK band to lift to by the way), and mostly In Flames, who in turn influenced 9,000 millions bands (Arch enemy, soilwork, killswitch engage, a shitload of swedish bands and american bands that sound like swedish bands). That being said the last couple In Flames CD's were terrible aswell.

yea, come to think of it, I did kind of attack you on this... didn't mean to.. I am the same way, I don't bow down to any group just because of names... I like plenty of songs, not albums by many groups... plenty of Metallica songs I don't care too much for...like I said I don't listen to any of the new stuff... biggest part that bugged me on this thread is how everyone is calling a band like that scrubs in their own way... but, to eaches own...

I don't think Metallica has ever been considered a musicians band like Rush, etc...

No worries man. I agree with you for the most part, they deserve their place in history. I don't hate the newer stuff because it's less complicated or technical, I listen to plenty of simple music. I don't like their newer stuff because I feel it is bad, ha. And some songs, like the previously mentioned "frantic" are so bad that they almost blemish their entire career for me. I guess you could give them props for still trying...but I dunno. After watching "Some kind of monster" I personally think retirement (from Metallica atleast, the members could have gone off and done other stuff) would have been the best choice. Hell, look at Pantera, they made 5 or 6 heavy ass CD's, were at the height of their popularity, and then called it quits. And they will be forever remembered on a good note (unless you dislike them in the first place, of course.

And yes At The Gates influenced many many bands. Maybe not directly, but like I said influenced bands that influenced bands. They brought the melodic swedish sound out and Thomas Haake inspired a dickload of gutteral vocals over melodic metal.

Amorphic, no disrespect, but I couldn't disagree more with everything you've said.

Metallica CLEARLY influenced about 2 decades worth of metal bands. The only band I can think of influenced by At the Gates would be Darkest Hour who sound exactly like them.
That said, Metallica just sound exactly Diamond Head with some heavier Black Sabbath influence.
And Black Sabbath has influenced absolutely EVERYONE, so who cares anyway.

    Also, Slayer rules.
    Also, Pantera rules.
    Also, METALLICA RULES.
(with the exception of my nomination for worst record of all time, the Black Album)

I do like Tool as well, which I think is what your avatar is from?
