I'm working on getting the family out as we speak, once there gone I am going down to the bay to see what things are looking like, then I'll be checking back here to see whats going on....

I'm in friendwood and going back and forth to Seabrook. This thing is going to hit east of us so it's not going to be as bad as the media is hyping it. I've been tracking this sucker on stormpulse and weatherunderground.com for 18hrs. The speed is increasing which is a good thing, the pressure is rising which is a good thing, and the GDP track has moved over 50miles east in the last 10hours. The winds at the low levels are cat 1, the winds at the high levels of the storm are cat 2-3 which is why they are getting the cat 2 average.
The only bad thing I can tell right now which is eminate is that fact that this storm is pushing 50% more water than Katrina did. If it hits Galveston bay head on, the storm surge in the mnadatory areas will probably be 5-7ft higher than the bay itself. A surge above 12ft in the bay will probably mean all of the mandatories will be under wit the addition to the rain. Slightly east and the surge in the mandatories drops dramatically below the bay surge.

I'll update you guys as I get more info. I dont own a TV and was actually quite suprised at exactly how much the scare tactics are being used on the news stations to kepp folks tuned in. Granted, I do understand the sense of urgency needed to evacuate the high risk areas, but almost all signs point to this thing decreasing in risk so far and the TV news rooms were saying the exact opposite. I even saw on station pointing to the increased travel speed of the storm as a bad thing, when it's exactly the opposite.

I just stayed in my house in NOLA for Gustav. I didn't leave for katrina and since Im in the mid of a cycle I wasn't evacuating for a whole weekd spending 12 hours in a car.

I have up to 110 lb dumbbells at my house, a bench with 600lbs of plates, and a station with cable machines. I had a generator running a window ac unit and small fridge/freezer for when the power went out and I cooked all my shit on a small charcoal grill. If i wasn't on cycle I might have evacuated. fvck em all

People are already stranded/flooded in Galveston and it hasn't even started raining or anything.

The only reason traffic went okay this time is because most of houston did not evacuate so the traffic of galveston can flow free through out of houston..
