Ive worked for decades in noisy environments using various equipment and power tools. I didn't think too much about it when I was in my 20's but now I wish I did. A little hearing protection would have went a long ways.
Half of the time I can't make out what someone is saying to me. Ive learned to look at them to pick up as much as I can with they're lips. Not too bad once they know they're dealing with someone who can't hear that well. It's even worse in an environment like the gym with lots of background noise. I can't tell you how many times someone has said something that I didn't understand and I nod like I picked up on it. Then they look at me like Im an idiot. Shouldn't have nodded. It just gets old saying; what, huh, sorry, did you say something?
Im nearing 50 yrs old. When I was a kid having a hearing aid was kinda like a handicap. Or a sign you had one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel. I guess I gotta get over that stigma.
Any suggestions on hearing aids or anything else appreciated?
Because of the stigma of a hearing aid I was thinking of getting a state of the art "hearing horn" like they used in the old days.
