    Glucosamine and Chondroitin

How many of you supplement with these and do you feel a noticable difference in your joints when you do? I just turned 30 but as far as my joints go, I feel like I should be posting in the over 40 forum. Was looking at some of this at Walmart the other day and it was a bit pricey so I wanted to see whats up before buying some.

I take them on a regular basis, when speaking to my orthopedic surgeon about the subject he was in full agreement that they work and are worth the money.
    I take 1 tab of Glucosamine sulphate 1000mg in the morn and 1 cap of Glucosamine,Chondroitin & M.S.M - 400mg Gluc/50mg Chon/50mg M.S.M before a work out and 1 tab of 500mg Gluc & 100mg collagen after working out.

The only problem I have is with chondroitin. it is a very large molecule and or joint matrix is so tightly knit that the absorption is very poor in most studies that I have read.

Glucosamine is good, MSM (or any sulfur based AA as well) will be good for detoxing the joint and reducing inflammation.

But all in all it depends on the actual problem. If its osteoarthritis this would be a good idea, rheumatoid there would be more options. Is it tendon or ligament damage?

C Bino I have a bum shoulder thats a possible rotator cuff issue that I have been dealing with for 2 years that I basically just work around. The newest issue is in my elbow. 99% sure its a tendon or ligament giving me pain.

Glucosamine/chondroitin have been disputed in their legitimacy but overall reception has been good from reading info and from dealing with customers. MSM is great and if mixed with low dose/enteric coated aspirin and fish oil can also aid with joint pain relief.

I have 2 dried disc in the lower back, and i have seen a study on pubmed about a 56 year old man taking glucosamine for 2 years, he did have lost water on one disc and another disc was really degenerated.

MRI where taken at the start of the study, after 1 year and after 2 years.

The disc that had lost water was fully rehydrated while the other disc stop degenerating.

My sport doctor who treats my back pain beleives in glucosamine and also collagen supplementation. I use Animal Flex from universal its is very complete.

I just wanted to say for myself, I would never recommend ANY of you take aspirin for any reason unless you have sudden chest pain and may be having a heart attack then take one and go to the hospital.

To medicated pain with an ACID like aspirin that eats away at stomach lining, increases risk of stroke, causes intestinal bleeding is just ridiculous.

You can take fish oils which thin blood and prdouce PGEIII for reducing inflammation. Aspirin actual interferes with the enzymatic conversion of DGLA to PGEI and icnrease PGEII production which actual INCREASES the inflammatory response (leukotreins and thromboxanes) and lower immune function.
