fruit in a PWO shake or not? I hear both ways..

I have been told to add fruit to PWO shakes and ever since I have added them I have noticed a great difference compared to the old PWO shakes I used to make..... My girlfriend tells me all the time that fruit doesn't digest well with protein and says I shouldn't mix the two.... any thoughts/facts/opinions on this topic? Thanks for any feedback

Fructose is the slowest digesting sugar, you'll want a quicker digesting carb PWO. If that's not the biggest concern to you and it just tastes delicious than go for it I don't think it would hurt you. I never heard anything about protein and fruit not mixing, but I'm only one man wait for more facts/opinions.

Thanks for your reply! I thought I heard Milo saying to have fruit with protein for PWO shakes in his dieting dvd.... Anyone know if I'm mistaken? (maybe I should watch the video again) Any more input on this would be great! Thanks again

If your goal is to replenish glycogen PWO (which I hope it is) fruit is pretty much the worst choice you can make. Great at replenishing liver glycogen but thats about it.

The idea is a simple sugar PWO. I like to blend a banana into my shake PWO.

Waxy Maize, Maltodextrin, Dextrose, White rice & White potatoes... (IN THAT ORDER, according to GI number) And that's about it.
Bananas have an aproximate GI of 60. Entering in the middle range I would say.
Same for fruit juices, since they are made with sacarose (what we usually call "sugar") and that's a combination of glucose/dextrose and fructose.

The more I read, research, listen and most importantly experiment I am finding there is no benefits to simple sugars. Unless you are using insuling I think you are better off avoiding them altogether.

100% fruit juice should be only fructose, the sucrose is the added sugar to not 100% fruit juices.

Waxy Maize absorbs the quickest if you're looking for immediate glycogen replenishment

Even worse then... If you're using "natural" fruit juice PWO, it will have even less GI than a "commercial" (meaning loaded with sugar thing) fruit juice with sucrose.

For cutting I don't go near any sugars... Even for PWO or breakfast, I skip them and use some low GI carbs.

For for maintaining, gaining lean mass or simply adding size... I'm also interested why not to use them...

Regular ole food. 200 grams Lean turkey breast and about 200-250 grams of sweet potatoe or something very similiar has been my PWO choice for quite some time now.

Fruit also has alot of fiber, slowing down the digestion, is that not also a concern in PWO shakes, I like to believe that it should be a fast hitting dose of carbs and protein.

But why not to use high GI carbs PWO?
I mean... In what form do you think it has helped you doing it that way?
Do you have some kind of explanation for this?

I used to use high GI carbs PWO myself but after doing more research and speaking with Bino and others I pretty much came to the conclusion that spiking insulin levels PWO really does not speed up the process of replenishing glycogen. I switched to low GI carbs nearly a year ago and have stayed much leaner. Now, I do still tell people, if you are going to use simple carbs, taking them in the first meal of the day or PWO gives you the best chance of not wearing it as fat later.

    Thanks man.
As I said, I've tried it for cutting phases ONLY, and you're right... I get leaner faster too.

I guess It's time to try it for adding some muscle too, and lets see how lean I can maintain while making some quality gains.
