ok so i got a lap top from a freind today and it is password protected ,he dont know the password(its not stolen) anyway i tryed going into the bios and thats also password protedted ,i put a new windows 7 disc into it and booted from dvd drive ,i formated all partisions and created a new one ,started to install windows and at the point of ,extractinf windows files i get an eror message saying

windows can not install requiredfiles.the file maybe coruot or missing ,make sure all files for instation are availble and restart the installation error code 0x80070017


any ideas anyone?

sounds like you may have a scratch on your disc or it is otherwise unreadable by your drive...do you have access to a different install disc?

anyway make sure it is very clean and try again..

Do you know what kind of hard drive it is? You can download format tools for harddrives that will repair bad sectors in the harddrive just find out what kind of harddrive and go to their site for the downloads. Most of the time those are free support software.

Make a copy of the dvd it is scratched.

When you go to install windows 7 make sure to erase the partition first.

i hagve tryed with vista ,windows 7 and xp ,all getting an error code ,someone said the bio may have locked access to the hard drive not letting me install a new windows on it? who knows but its realy pissing me off haha.

Not sure if having the BIOS password protected is the problem or not, however if you can open the laptop, removing the CMOS battery should reset the BIOS password, either that or look for a jumper on the motherboard and move it over 1 pin.

done the cmos battery and what a fuker it was to find ,is was on the underside of the board ,that dident do the trick and i couldent find the jumpers ,might have a another look for the jumpers ...thanks.

I suggest you download a trojan thats designed to nab passwords. I have one on a hacking cd I bought a while back.
But I'm sure they have the software somewhere on the net.
They're not damaging trojans btw. You install it on a thumbdrive, and all you do is plug the drive into your computer,
don't ask how (cause idk) but a window will automatically pop up displaying every password ever entered in the computer.

I did this a while back on my desktop when I forgot my paypal password. Its really simple/quick I just obviously can't
guarantee it will work.

seems like there might be useful information for you.
Have you tried pressing control/alt/delete twice when the login pops up?
Then you'll get a classic login window and type Administrator and it should log you in.

thanks for the links bj but you see the problem i have is the lap top did have the vista os on it that was password protected ,as i dident know the password i just put a windows 7 disc in and booted from dvd drive ,once i had the option to install windows i formated both partisions and delited both the back up partision and the system so the hard rive now has no os on it so i only have two options

1- enter bios and see if i can work things in there but as its password protected i can not do this

2-reinstall windows ,i get to the point of its starts instaltion but the 2nd stage were windows extracts files it dont get past 0% and it gives the error code i put up in first post.

as you can see i think i made the mistake of deliteing the the back up recovery partsion one and also the system partion with the origanal os on it .

new hard drive maybe?i think it has something to do with the bios password not letting me access the bio has locked out me reinstalling windows on the hard drive.

If it let you format the drive than you dont have a password on the hdd, bios passwords can be tricky

what brand and model computer is it?

From my understanding, booting from USB will have higher success rate to recover lost password. I did it on my dell xps laptop with UUkeys password mate and it reset the password instantly.
