Hit a Deer on the way to work this am

well im driving to work this am and all of a sudden a deer comes out of nowhere and runs right in front of me. there was nothing i could do. knocked the heck out of him and he literally went flying like 6-8 feet off the ground spinning end over end sideways! i (like prob most of yall) consider myself to be a pretty good driver and have lived in the country for a little over 2 yrs and managed to dodge and stop for more deer than i can count, but not this time.

he was a fairly good sized buck with a decent rack. (emphasis on the word WAS).. poor fella.. feel bad for him.

u know, i sure wish theyd move those deer crossing signs to somewhere where the speed limit was much slower. like say a school crossing or something like that. putting these deer crossing signs on roads where the speed limit is 55+ is not a good idea!

thx man! we have good insurance and its already in the works. they told my wife if we got a rental today wed have to pay for it so i had to call them and set that straight.. people do have accidents on sundays u know. sorry if YOUR rental company is closed but thats not my problem. all u have to do is throw the word "unsafe" in there and they become more than willing to accomodate!

Up here where i live thats business as usual. Nobody gets too concerned about hitting a deer. Usually the story ends with how much deer they were able to recover, and then they'll offer you some..lol

But a moose...that's a different ball game!

I drive countless miles and have been fortunate enough to only hit one...of course I was in a hurry and doing well over 90mph=dead deer!

LOL.. yeh u hear people say whatever went flying, well im here to tell ya this dang deer went flying! aside from the fact that i feel bad and would never intentionally harm an animal and the potential pain this poor deer may or may have not felt when i hit him, it was a bit of a funny sight to see him fly in the manner in which he did. cuz he was big!

i was very surprised my car was still running and i was able to drive it to work and work in it until 1000 when my wife brought me the rental. the a/c even worked and i had an older honda before this one (which is what caused me to buy this one) and hit a dog (LOL) on the way to work one morning and it punched a hole in my freon line and didnt show any exterior damage to the car.

i hit the dog at the same speed (65mPh) except his dumb behind was just standing still in the middle of my lane at 0530 in the am. a black dog. i didnt even have time to hit the brakes. the cruise control was still on after the whole thing was over..

come to think of it i guess animals in my path on the way to work is a fairly good occurrence!

Wouldnt even want to imagine. My dad was in a wreck few years back and while he was recovering a guy was admitted who hit a turkey! That guy almost died and he had a Harley with a windshield and all. Hopefully you never run into anything like that. Hopefully you wear a helmet when you ride. Drain bramge is hard on everyone taking care of you afterwards.

How to Cook Roast Venison (Traditional Recipe)
Ingredients

6lb / 3 kg haunch of venison
8oz / 250kg chopped bacon.
2 tbs butter
2 tbs olive oil
salt and pepper to taste

The Marinade

1 bottle of red wine
4 tbs olive oil
2 carrots finely chopped
4 shallots, peeled and finely chopped
2 crushed garlic gloves (optional)
1 bay leaf
12 black peppercorns
Fresh rosemary
Juniper berries

The Sauce
1 tbs butter
1 tbs plain flour
1 tbs rownaberry jelly
5 fl oz / 150 ml port.


Method

Marinade

•Gently cook the shallots and carrots in the oil in a large pan (large enough to hold the venison).

•Mix in the rest of the ingredients.

•Put in the venison and leave to marinade for 2 days, turning the joint at least 3 times a day.


The Meat

•After 2 days, remove meat and dry on kitchen roll.

•Put oil and butter into large oven-proof pan with a lid (large enough to hold the meat)

•Gently brown the bacon.

•Add meat and brown on all sides.

•Meanwhile, in another pot, boil the marinade rapidly until it is reduced.

•Put through a strainer and pour over meat.

•Put lid on pan and cook in the oven 170 C / 375 F for around 30 minutes per lb (500g).

•If you're going to make a sauce, then cover the meat in kitchen foil to keep it warm.

Rowanberry and Port Sauce
•Strain all the juices into a pot, bring to the boil.

•Melt the butter, mix in the flour.

•Whisk the butter and flour mix with the liquid, ensuring no lumps.

•Simmer until sauce is reduced and thickens.

•Whisk in the rowanberry jelly and port.

•Season if necessary with salt and pepper.



Either pour the Sauce over the carved meat or serve separately in a gravy boat.

Damn you, I was taking a drink when I read that and almost spit it all over my desk and screen. That post (audio) was funny as sh*t.

Been there done that 2x within 50 feet of each other and about 2 years apart in time. Same thing both time. Sent them ass over tea kettle. Ive always believe if you aren't SURE you can stop safely or get out of the way just to continue on and try to not hit it in the middle of the car.

Agreed, PETA is a joke. I have heard that about them before. You also have to love Penn and Teller. Great show.
