I found this and thought it stated all too sady, abeit elegantly the thinking that is wrong with so many today - I was speaking to someone who was griping about how all those "rich" people should give up a lot of their money in taxes to "poor" people and it would fix everything. What he didnt realize is that he is sitting on a $800K house free and clear + savings, making him a millionaire - HE is one of those "evil, corrupt" rich people. give people a fish and they eat for a day - buy them a fishing rod and they use it to scratch their butt...

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks he's a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.

Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others are cold and starving. CBS, NBC, ABC, and CNN show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food.

America is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?

Kermit the Frog appears on Oprah with the grasshopper, and everybody cries when they sing "It's Not Easy Being Green."

Jesse Jackson stages a demonstration in front of the ant's house where the news stations film the group singing "We shall overcome." Jesse then has the group kneel down to pray to God for the grasshopper's sake.

Tom Daschle & Walter Mondale exclaim in an interview with Peter Jennings that the ant has gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper, and both call for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his "fair share."

Finally, the EEOC drafts the "Economic Equity and Anti-Grasshopper Act," retroactive to the beginning of the summer. The ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of green bugs and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the government.

Hillary gets her old law firm to represent the grasshopper an a defamation suit against the ant, and the case is tried before a panel of federal judges that Bill appointed from a list of single-parent welfare recipients. The ant loses the case.

The story ends as we see the grasshopper finishing up the last bits of the ant's food while the government house he is in, which just happens to be the ant's old house, crumbles around him because he doesn't maintain it. The ant has disappeared in the snow.

The grasshopper is found dead in a drug-related incident and the house, now abandoned, is taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorize the once peaceful neighborhood.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Vote Republican - not that they get it so right either, its just that they are less pathetic than most democrats

A couple good reasons not to vote for either Republican or Democrat (well, most of 'em):
1) The War on Drugs -- Puts too many decent people in prison, ends up making the mob lots of $$$.
2) Illegal 'roids -- really ought to be a decision between you and your medical practitioner.

The two major political parties are fine if you don't mind the gov't running your life for you, making all sorts of personal decisions based on how a bunch of prudes think you should live your life . . . they're fine if you don't mind the 'publicans picking your pocket to keep the war-suppliers rolling in dough, or the 'crats subsidizing parents who can't or won't take care of their own kids . . .
IMHO, the gov't should be limited to (1) protecting people from each other (2) organizing stuff that private companies can't do (3) national defense. Maybe a few other things, but less than what's going on nowadays.
The country is pretty well screwed up; deep in debt, militarily involved in dozens of foreign countries, tax $$$ goes to places it ought not go, we can't live our lives the way we want without interference by gov't officials. And for this, it seems to me that it's time to vote for someone other than a political conformist, people who are persuaded less by campaign donations than by what you and I want.
So I think we need another party-line Republican or Democrat like we need a hole in the head . . . Seems to me folks on this board would be best served by politicians who pledged themselves to end 'controlled deliveries'; and any 'roider who votes to keep Geo. Bush's minion, John Ashcroft, around for another 4 years and expects to get good, safe stuff at reasonable prices is crazy . . .
