Yeah it does seem kinda silly, since everyone here is into drugs and guns and all that stuff, couple swear words seems harmless. However, if the big boyz think it's the right move, and it's for the overall good of the board and it's members, then so be it, it is their call after all

I sure don't find that alone to be a good reason to leave this great board

source posts
anything that we deem is hate speech or
anything degrading of women,
no porn
no flames between members
or anything that is exceedingly gross or disgusting

Now, why do we do that? many other boards do not and just let everything go. We do so because it is an attempt to make AR a better place to be where the focus is on BB related subjects and a mature discussion of off topics. A place that I can point out to other people I know and be proud of that I am associated with.

Notice I and other mods have let a number of rather divisive threads stand because I and other mods believe that everyone has a right to their opinion and to be able to state it, so why not discuss those things that we feel most passionate about? So while we may speak about whatever we want, passion does not mean that we are free to speak however we want.

A lot of the cursing leads to people getting riled at each other in pics forums or people taking things the wrong way - again, I cannot see one beneficial thing that cursing adds to the board or your posts but there are many negatives.

And most of those who curse often sound like a bunch of freshmen in HS who are excited that they are finally "old enough" to use the words **** and **** instead of adults who can actually run 2 sentences together without an expletive

Can you say "we aint got no edjumacation?"

Frankly, I dont want to sound like that, and since I have to read all this garbage its starting to rub off and I would guess it has this effect on everyone - that is not the kind of influence that I want AR to have or to stand for.

So you see, you are still free to type whatever you like - and we are still free to allow only what we deem is beneficial to the board and at least mildly worthy of reading.

ttgb - you notice we censor rec drug threads as well (that rolling a blunt thread is gone but it wasnt me since I didnt even know about it) - not all but most - in fact I forgot to add that one to the list of normally censored things already mentioned - we sensor a LOT of things here - and that is what makes it a better board - there are pleeeenty of other boards who let everything go, but I have noticed that many boards saw how we were doing it and gravitated that way rather than like Elite -

and censorship starts and ends where I and the other mods say it does

Why do we do this? because we have a gestapo superiority complex that feels the need to constantly put you in your place you pathetic little human being while I and I alone have the power!!! ahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahaahahah

its because we want to make sure that this board stays civil and informative and a great place for our members

I try to stay under the radar of Cycleon.

He has a point when it comes to setting and sticking to standards that he and Jason set up. Im sure it feels good for them to know that other boards use this as referance and a foundation for their own boards (and there are A LOT of boards out there.)
They have let A LOT of threads slide by in the past couple of months that normally would have been pulled. This being not to cause an uproar such as the whole post count thread thing.
Im sure some things need to hold firm.
It does seem like we are children being told to watch our language but like CYC said " you can swear, but now you just have to be more creative and work for it"

F U C K and such. Just makes you take the time to hit space bar if you really want the word to come up.

I think it would be a good thing if we can get a hack in the upcoming version of vbulletin to chose what you want - you guys have to thank ptby profusely - even though this is kinda his job, he really really does keep doing a LOT of new things for improving the board, software wise - and a lot of other boards havent upgraded to this version yet much less the next one.
