Howard Stern & the FCC
I just searched the forum and was surprised no one has yet posted about Howard Stern being removed from 6 Clear Channel stations and now about to seriously fined by the FCC for indecency. So now, there's a question of what's indecent. Considering that Howard has been doing the same thing for over 20 yrs, why now? Personally, I agree with Howard when he says the seperation of church and state is becoming no more and the right of free speech is getting pushed out. Was wondering what everyone else thought about all of this. (and I realize that this will mesh into the Bible thread and the Passion thread but let's try to keep it more gov't based)

Yeah, I don't think people realize how much Clear Channel owns. Radio stations, Fox, 90% of venues where concerts are played. It's crazy. They're a strong reason why concert prices have gone up - friggin' monopoly.
Trying...the FCC is looking to regulate satellite radio too. Clear Channel owns or has major stock in XM radio.

If you listened today (Friday) Howard got a call last night from a source inside the FCC stating that major fines would be handed out today against Viacom regarding a 3 year old Stern show. If this proves to be true it is the begining of the end. I have been a Rebublican my entire life but I do not agree where the party is heading. Way too much religion being part of the party's decision making. I do not like it. What ever happened to separation of church and state? That was done for a reason. I go back with Stern well over 20 years ( DC101 ) and can't stand to see this happen to the man. Next year I WILL register Independant and probally vote that way.

Clear Channel removing Stern is NOT censorship people. It's no different than a TV show getting canceled by a networkp; so you can stop with all this Clear Channel is evil BS. Lets not turn into a bunch of Tim Robberts here. Clear Channel is a business, they can air who ever they want to in order to make money which is all they are worried about; which is all any broadcast company is worried about. Stern is still on over a dozen radio stations around the USA
FCC has been able to hand out fines for indecent remarks since the begining of radio. The only reason why their catching any kind of criticism for doing so is that they never fine the TV networks, which I'll admit is unfair. If Bush and his rights slashing administration wanted to take away the 1st, they'd be targeting the major liberal newspapaers(ie New York Times, San Fran Chronicle, LA times, and a number of others) and TV networks.

It just irritates me that every major radio station I can pick up in my area is owned by Clear Channel and I am forced to listen to the same crappy music on every station. Yes, they are perfectly within their rights to air whatever they want on their stations. That doesn't mean I have to like it and it doesn't mean I have to listen to it. And I don't.

There aren't a whole lot of radio stations around here. The majority play country music so I don't even attempt to listen to them. The other ones that I can remotely tolerate listening to are owned by Clear Channel. There is a station out of Charleston, WV, that I can pick up occassionally that actually plays good music. . . but it's rare when I can get a good signal.
And yes, it does suck to live in eastern Kentucky.
