Anyone try using same needles ?
Anyone ever just use 1 pin only to withdraw from vials and switch only to a new one for IM injections?
Going through 2-3 pins per injection EOD is another pain in my ass

reusing the same needles are bad bro. there used to be a pic that showed what a needle looked like after 1-4 injections. maybe someone can help out with that.

For the sake of being sanitary, I'd highly suggest it(Edit: Swapping needles). Your needle won't be that much duller, but, it's still worth the small price.

An infection will be a lot more of a pain in the ass than switching needles.

that fourth picture looks like it was stuck into concrete. i used to always use the same needle for suckig out the gear ,and then a new one every time to shoot but its risky. your better off just using one needle for the whole thing and be done with it unless your dealing with those ****ty hard rubber stoppers. if its an ampjust dont scrap the bottom

When you finally have to go to the DR from reusing the same equiptment, make sure you tell them its a "spider bite". That'll fill a line in thier paperwork and save you the hassle of telling them what in the abcess.
Not directed at anyone person on this thread, just FYI.

I have received 1000s of allergy shots from dr's and nurses for almost 20 years and not once have they ever changed the needle after drawing the fluid out of the vial. I talked to my friend who is also a doc and said its not necassary to change it either. Just be clean and sterile and you'll be fine
-

Its not necessary to change. But if i'm sticking ME, im **** sure going to use a virgin needle. If i'm sticking YOU....bah. I'll use the needle thats been on the floor for a week
On that note, for those drawing out of ampules, you should be using a 5.0 micron filter needle. I know you have gotten away with it for years, but that microscopic glass has to come out sometime.

I think what you are asking is if you can continue to use your drawing needle for drawing subsequent shots, and just change to a new shooting needle for each shot and discard that one, but re-use the drawing needle next shot. Still, bad idea. It is no longer sterile! Pins are too cheap to worry about wasting a few. What's the big deal about using two needles per injection? Look... here's what I do. I buy 3cc syringes equipped with 21ga 1-1/2" pins, in boxes of 100. I buy 25ga and 23ga needles, 1-1/2" long, in boxes of 100. I don't even remember what I pay... less than $20 for the rigs... I think Terumos work out about 16 cents each. The pins are really cheap... about 6 cents each as I recall figuring out one day. So small that I don't even notice the price. I draw with the 21ga already on the rig, then change to either 23 or 25ga for the shot. I discard both pins in my approved, labeled sharps container, and toss the syringe and wrappers and caps in the trash. The front section of my morning newspaper costs me more than my injection equipment. An abscess would cost me a lot more.
Do the right thing. DO NOT re-use pins for any purpose! It is the wrong thing to do.

Never use a pin more than once.
They are cheap buy them up....

I use the same pin to withdraw from all vials, and even if I'm filling more than one barrel, then I waste only one pin ad keep the good ones and reattach them when done fro injection, never had an abcess (note not reusing, just using the same one to withdrawl all)

Medical professionals are taught to use a filtered needle from amps. I know most don't; but it is a standard of care.

Good photos, that 4th one does indeed look like it was
jabbed at concrete....or something
It is a small price to pay, i've stocked up . I recently switched to using
a 18 for draw because 23's took too long.

It depends. If Im breaking glass I use a filter needle. If Im stickin a rubber top, I dont switch.
ps Whatever doctor said you dont need a filter is full of sh*t. They dont know d*ck about giving shots anayway. Its the nurses.Last edited by RA; 04-29-2005 at 09:43 AM.

Ok I used to use 22's to draw and stick same pin, I would stabb it in the vial, draw it out, then wipe my ass and stick it in the ass. I now draw with the 22 and then change pins to a 23 and stick it in my ass, what a differance, its less painful!!!!
I go through 2 pins-one syringe each time, its worth it dude.

I forgot to tell ya a trick. If your hitting the rubber and you need to draw 3mls then get 3mls of air in the barrel. Stick it in push the air in and draw your juice. Maybe you already knew but I didnt. Used to sit there for a 1/2 hour waiting for the stuff to drain.

i was at the doc a few weeks ago geting my test levels checked and when she drew the blood, i asked out of curiosity what gauge needle she was using. she politely replied with a "21 guage" i thought to myself, HOLY MONKEY SH*T!!!!!! never

I like to buy 100 at a time. Much handier to have them in the box than loose or in a bunch of ziplocs.

I was a flight paramedic for 6 yrs and now I am in Medical School. This thread is a good way to get people misinformed. First off, you do not have to filter when drawing from a glass vial. Second, all medical staff are taught to aspirate to ensure that they are not in a vein(Remember it is an intramuscular injection no an intraveneous one) You can shoot with the needle you draw with. If you wipe the top with an alcohol pad, it will be sterile. It will not be dulled so much as to be harmful. And last, everyone is right needles are too cheap and should never be reused. Hope this helps. Guns
