    Muscle Relaxer

Anyone ever take muscle relaxer on aas? I tweaked my low back ever so slightly on deadlifts. It should be fine in a few days but thought a muscle relaxer would quicken the healing.

    Thanks all

your body is talking to you. You can put a "bandaid" on the issue by taking a muscle relaxer, but that doesn't get to the root of the problem.

    Two things:
    1) You may be lifting too heavy (you are in your 40's, right?) or your form is less than ideal, probably driven by the first part of this statement
    2) The muscle relaxer will allow you to ignore your muscular strain, and put you at risk of aggravating the problem even further

You may want to let it rest until it calms down on it's own, and then rethink the weight you are currently lifting.

Agree completely. Once you go past NSAIDs you are asking for a real injury.

If you are in your 40s I would not be lifting "Raw" on the deadlifts or squats. a GOOD weightbelt will prevent most lower back tweeks and help your form.

Yes, turn 42 next month... I have always paid close attention to form. Being on cycle the weight goes up a bit. Trying to stick to high weight low reps but perhaps with the dead lifts I just need to keep the weight down a bit. Definitely want to trigger growth though. The low back only seems to be a little sore the day after. Will stay away from the muscle relaxer. I have been using a muscle stimulus unit that seems to help with a little ibuprofen.

    Thanks

Should be using a belt. I am a commercial airline pilot and don't take my belt with me. Some gyms have one or two lying around but not all of them. Traveling so much makes it a little difficult for nutrition, pinning and getting the right workouts in when I want them. Making it work though. Bring most of my prepared food with me in a cooler and one prepared pin of aas and one of hcg . 2nd cycle, enjoying the results.

    Thanks guys

I've got about ten years on you, and have had to rethink my lifting protocols on several occasions due to repeated injuries. My problem in the past is the ego. Stubbornly refusing to adjust for age and wear and tear on the body from the gym.

I've had a disastrous year last year, a variety of significant illness', operations, and what not. Down 50 pounds. So I've started a new protocol, and 110% focusing on form, and repping very slowly. A simple curl can take me 3 seconds or so. And then I hold at the point of contraction for at least a second. This, for me, is actually pretty tough to do resulting in the overall weight I'm lifting to be reduced so that I can still rep in the right range. The theory for me is that this will help me reduce my risk of injury. So far, I'm surprised how well my body is responding to this method. I'm sure some of it is simple rebound, aka "muscle memory".

Anyways, when you get to the point where you seem to notice that your body is beginning to hurt more and more frequently, this is something you might think about.

    Good luck!

Yes, as mentioned there are some things you can take. You would be amazed how many are drunk when they come aboard trying to alleviate their phobias. I wouldn't suggest that personally. One way is to always fly with a scantily dressed smokin hot young lady. That way you can just focus on her. Hopefully she is one of the drunk ones too... ;-)

I think Roman has hit the mark dead-on with his advice. I too have 10 years (+) on you and had to rethink and retool workouts. Best of luck!!!

I have to agree on muscle relaxers. I am old and I know it. But 45 is not that old. I can hurt my back from turning around or wiping my butt. I stopped doing dead lifts a while back due to they do increase the risk of injury. I am not a fan of flexeril. They dope me up. I take a couple of skalaxton when I need to be alert and then Zanaflex (tizanidine) at night. Those will put you to sleep fast but no hangover like flexeril.

As to flying, grow up. Its only a plane. Go jump out of one and you will be cured. If not take Xanax or Valium. Drunks on a airplane are a pain in the ass. I dont get people with phobias unless it has to do with spiders. I never had one until Uncle Sam sent me to play in the desert and I had one of these crawl up my leg at night. I almost blew my foot off with my M-16

You want to hire me as your copilot? I've got 200 hours. 150 fixed wing, 50 rotorcraft. I can push buttons and pull levers. Let me know!

With the pilot shortage in the next few years, if you continue flying your would be in a great position for a great career. My career has sucked because of the stagnation for the last 15 years... Pushing buttons and pulling levers... If you can do that you have it made!!! :-0

    Good luck

I'm scared to fukin hell of flying and I take valium which works wonders. It's also the best muscle relaxer out there imho but only take it now and again. If taken for a couple of wks it can be habit forming and addictive

There are three types of Type II muscle fiber, and each is responsive and will stimulate growth in the 5, 10, and 15 rep range. Only focusing on one fiber type in the five rep range would be ignoring the other two fiber types. Body builders are very aware of this, power lifters are only concerned about raw strength, and focus on the one muscle fiber type only. Take a look at the chart I've provided and you will see what I am talking about.

I was battling lower back issues for a couple years, every time I deadlifted, or sparred where any plumb techniques were used, etc, had me limping for days. Eventually went to a chiro and i have been pain free ever since!! I was a huge sceptic but it literally changed my life, I now only go occasionally and can train 100% with no pain!!
