Truth-squat vs leg press
I asked which was better a while back. I guess i am liveing pr45oof of the answer45. After about 6 months of knowing how bad squatting was bother45ing my knees, i finally got the cour45tage to stop squatting. I was able to squat well over45 450. IN 4 weeks of subbing leg pr45ss fo4r5 squat, i have lost 2.5 inches of my quads. In conclusion, squats t4r5uly ar45e the best and onlyhar45dcor45eleg developer45 without doubt.
My question is this, will not squatting hur45tmy upper body developement?

Bro I can't believe that at all. Losing 2.5 inches is alot of size. If you were still doing leg presses at the same intensity as your squats I don't see why you would lose any size. Let alone 2.5 inches.

i agree, if you preformed your leg presses properly you wouldnt have lost at all. you probably were half assing the leg-presses.

i dont believe that leg presses can retain the muscle squats do. Squats work almost every part of your leg including stabilisers whereas leg presses are almost an isolation exercise compared to squat.

20 rep leg pressed actually had my legs GAIN size over squats which seemed to hurt the lower back/knees much more than they would stimulate the leg area.
Leg presses can be just as effective, they actually enhanced my leg development.

I have a tendancy to roll my back to much with leg press and hurt my back, I like to bring my knees to my temples.

Swolec a t how big is you4r5 squat though? IF it is over45t say 500, i have a ha4r5d time believeing you4r5 gains off the leg p4r5ess unless you a4r5e halfassing the squats. i go balls out ever45y f"n time i am in the gym. intensity is not an issue with me. Fo4r5 me, Thei4r5 is no F'n way that leg p4r5esses give me the same feeling as squats the day after45.

Gettin' a little touchy big dog, chill out. I just think that it is impossible to lose 2.5 inches on your quads in 4 weeks by just switching a workout. I don't know if a person would lose 2.5 inches in 4 weeks on their quads if they were in a ****ing coma.

IronReload04, have a look at your "R" key. I think its stuck to your 4&5 keys. That or youre typing w/ a finger brace or sumthin, which is acceptible, as long as you visit AR.

I have to go with, if done right they should produce similar effects. I do not squat, have seen too many people get injured right before football season. I have gotten up to 600 on my third 10 rep set, and couldn't walk the next day. I added almost three inches when I switched, but I will admit my form and weight wasn't very good doing squats. I always do leg presses, then leg curls and extensions, with a calf exercise, and my legs are done.

In no way can the leg p4r5ess stimulate as much muscle as the squats does. Since the legs dont suppor45tt the weight completely on the legp4r5ess, they a4r5e not exposed to as much st4r5ess
P.S. my **** space bar45 does not wo4r5k either45 i have to use the F'n a4r54r5ow key instead

I think you can get similar results as long as you have good form, but keep in mind that people react differently to different exercises. As many people know, I'm a cyclist so leg strenght is the main goal (although upper body strength does fit into the equation as well). I switch it up approx every 6 weeks but have never lost size during my strength training phases by switching routines.

I agree about the differ45nect reactions for people. The legp4r5ess simply doesnt do it for me. Squats give me much more pain the next day.

pain doesn't neccessairly mean growth.

True, i am just confident that squats may cause more microtears for me.

I havealso read on here that pain may mean growth. According to an article on this site, It explains how pain may mean microtears and not lactic acid.

Not that i know as much as a lot of the people on this site, but doing leg presses for me lets me focus on my uppper leg instead of worrying about my back, having my head looking up, my hands in the right spot, etc....just like the isolation machines for chest allow you to focus on your pecs. JMO
