Deadlift Shins
am i the only person on this board to suffer this ailment? nicked and bloody shins on deadlift day?
I only deadlift very heavy, and it seems that I always get my shin one time with the bar and it starts bleeding.....

I'm in this club. I have a big ass gash on my leg from last week. It sucks but their aint a way in the world I'm removing those from the back day.
I know a guy who wheres pads when he deadlifts, but that seems like it would feel strange.

You know..I have seriously thought about wearing some kind of pads, but then again I just suck it up and trudge on. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't alone. Last night I put 450 on the bar and did a couples sets of 8 and damnitt if I didn't hit my left shin on the first set...

450 You fucking freak. The most I've ever tried is 320 for 5. I suddenly feel weak and small, I must shoot my ass tonight.

Major....not to worry, me and the wife are looking to move your way. My powerlifting days are over, now it's all about bb'ing brother. But I'm still lifting heavy......2 setso warm-up, 405 for 8, 455 for 6, 475 for 6, 500 even for 4-5 reps. After that I go puke and finish whats left of my workout.

You could try to put some talcum powder on your shins to decrease the friction which may help some.

Thats too funny skid. I'd laugh my ass off if i saw some dude wearin those, but then again if it was 450 on the DL, i might think twice. Eh fuck it i'd still laugh my ass off

you guys are too cool....I may have to visit the local Oshmans superstore now
BigTexan...sounds like you could show me a thing or two in the gym...500lbs for 4/5 reps is beastlike!!

This may sound gay but if you were long pants try some tube socks.
-
actually i've worn sweatpants with the long socks underneath a time or two..but i can't get into my rythym with them on....my next try was going to be an ace bandage around my shins.....that may be doable and not too distracting

I have never hit my shins, even if I deadlift at the end of a session, I can see how you could I must be the perfect height/build for deadlifts.

Maybe my form is off, but I always seem to scrape right above my knee. Long pants didn't help, I think I actually got more of a cloth burn. Oh well, no pain no gain!

It's funny because the hair on my legs doesn't grow on the front of my shins anymore.....been that way since college.
Major....as for showing you something, I'll work with ya on deads, if you can work on me on bench...mr. 350 for 2 or 3. I'm barely getting 320 for 2. Of course my arms are so damn long my knuckles drag in the dirt....actually my back is my strong point, second is legs, then shoulders and finally chest. I just feels like a big puss on chest days! LOL

i would say that your shins will eventually get used to it. i don't even feel anything on my shins anymore, bloody or not. i used to race motocross so i know all about bloody shins. my mechanic would sharpen my pegs so sharp, it was great except when you would crash, that shit would go right threw my pants. i think the nerves died cause i do deads and run the bar right up my shins to keep good form and i don't feel shit. not saying that i am a tough guy i just think there is no feeling left. so major i think a little more shin gashing and you won't feel shit.

just wondering whether you guys use the roman form, or the reverse form. I only ask because whenever i do the reverse form i still hit my shins but not nearly as bad. they just scrape but dont usually bleed.
