How many times a week do you work your muscle groups?
How many times a week do you work your different muscle groups?
Mainly I am just curious if people work out each muscle group once or twice per week.
I have started to work each group once a week very intensly each workout. I have found that I like to work my muscles very intensly....5 to 6 sets 3-5 exercises no more than 8 reps per set...... and doing each group twice a week was WAY toom much work me.

For the most part, it depends on the muscle group size and how intensly it was worked.

I tried twice a week and I didn't like the results. So once a week for me too. 5 days on then 1 day rest then 1 day abs and calves only.

I am starting to feel better about this once a week thing. You all get good gains this way, right?

I've been doing entire body 3 x per week. Is that too much. In the beginnig I had to loose 60 pounds, which I did then stopped the cardio and started more with free-weights. I got bigger muscle and even smaller wasite when free-weights were increased and cardio was dropped. It went from 40" to 29". I feel if I do not do 3 x week I'm cutting myself short. I do not want to get my waiste back and want to keep mass.
I read allot where others workout each muscle group 2 x per week but I can only make it to the gym 3 x per week and do not want to work 1 group only once per week.
Anybody think I'm overtraining? I'm definately gaining mass, right now.
Thanx,

So far it looks like once a week is the the most popular. I feel better doing it once a week now that I know it is the norm and people are getting good gains this way.
Bobbo, maybe one of the vets can help you as I am still tring to learn all this myself. 3 x a week seems to much to me, but it all depends (I think) on how hard you are training.

You have to work at your level too. What an advanced bodybuilder does is not what a beginner should follow. Most beginners do better with more frequent splits. Upperbody/lower body type.
As you advance - the strain you put on your body requires more rest. Benching 405 for 8 puts more stress on your entire system than say... benching 135 for 8.
To put it lightly, your muscles hypertrophy but your organs do not.

Not to mention there are sooooo many genetic limitations to what makes you grow. You have to find what puts you on your positive supercompensation curve for continued progress... what gets you there is different than what someone else should do for max progress...

I think I'll stick to 3 x per week. I'm definatley gaining mass and my waist dropped. I switched from barbell to DBs when doing pressed and a gaining more mass in chest already, 3 weeks. I'm doing DB (55lb) nothing major but three weeks ago I could only do 45 lb DBs.
Thanx for the advice,
Bobbo
