Question why thumb over or under

what is the difference with thumb over or under? I always did with bench, but lately i've seen advice to go thumb under on curls and tris. Why?

I've always used thumbs over for benches and seated presses...

For me seems to keep my elbows out and more in line to put more
stressed on my chest during benches and delt during presses...

Gotta watch it though cus one slip and you a second away from fucking yourself up real good without your thumb there to stop the bar from rolling...

I remember reading a Mike Christian article back in the 80's about
him doing it the same way, so there's must be something to it...

I'm the same way...i feel like using the changed up grip allows me to focus more on pushing with my chest, rather than gripping too tightly and involving my tris more. maybe it's psychological, maybe there's science behind it...bottom line is, try both and see what works for you

I do close grip and incline with my thumbs under, but I do flats with my thumbs over. I have had the weight roll on flats, and that scared the shit out of me. I use the thumb under on close grip and incline because it is easier on my wrists.

Sorry, no science help from me.

i like doing thumbs under I find it gives more surface for the bar to sit on and it is more balanced.
