    Dura got hitched today!

Yep, took the plunge. That's my wife in the avatar! We've been dating about a year and we've become best of friends. The wedding was very low key because we both feel it's a union of two individuals (vs. families and friends) so it was low cost, low stress and highly authentic. Good stuff.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I take the commitment seriously. In the past, I ran around pretty wild but you get to the point where you're just struck by the emptiness and you can truly value companionship and a deep desire to see the best for your significant other. She's an incredible person and I know I'm a lucky guy.

its funny... it's my anniversary tomorrow and i was in the store buying a couple bouquets and the chick behind me says, "You do something wrong"? i was like, "Ya i did something wrong, i got married.. now i gotta buy flowers every year to celebrate my anniversary". was just joking of course... tying the knot was the best thing i've ever done..

Yeh some people call it getting "hitched" other people call it "tying the not" I just like the phrase "getting shackled" the best for some reason.

I'm definately humbled and awestruck by her deep dark eyes which, at times intimate a hint of sadness. I'm not looking for a "trophy wife" but I appreciate her beauty irrespective of how it pales to her spirit.

I come to experience her as pure of heart and centered on "good attitude" namely, human values, accountability, fairness and a sense of curiosity - an open mind and an open heart. I think it's a fundamental curiosity that motivates a person away from a narrow, provincial mentality and towards a global perspective.

I'm keen on the idea of a global community because I believe that it's an attitude that engenders peace as the world increasingly becomes more interdependent and complex with more cultural "contact zones." Adapting to the interdependent world is about communication, tolerance and compromise. For me, our relationship symbolizes this challenge as we often have to draw on deeper resources to transcend our cultural differences and tendency toward self-rightousness as we cling to our habits. Instead, we are humbled to affect a common understanding and a fair solution to the problem at hand. Win-win! Not zero sum.

She's a truly unique person. A line from Niel Young's "heart of gold" says, "keep me searching for a heart of gold....and I'm getting old." I appreciate the rarity of an authentic person especially within a mass culture. While so many puppets are being pulled on strings by the corporate master who defines their identity, their vote, "their" lives, there walks an organic individual who seems to come from her own center.

The human wasteland is vast but in any desert a blooming flowers abound. Her vitality inspires me, makes me feel alive and makes me hunger for more life, more of what is best in me. She's from Lima, Peru and she knows well about poverty, hardship and tragedy. She and her family came to American out of desperation and a hope for a better life. She's endured some horrific experiences in Peru and as corrupt as our judicial system is here, you can appreciate it as a relative "lesser of evils." Her family works ungodly hours as they are exploided by employers but never do you hear a complaint. They are grateful to be here.

She's an intelligent and talented woman who will undoubtedly contribute here in America. As the mythologist Joseph Campbell once said, "vital people vitalize." She has inspired and vitalized me and I'm grateful.
