    Insomnia.....

Why the hell does it take me so long to fall asleep at night. I was up for almost 2 days straight the other night and it took me like 2 hours to fall asleep. And thats how it is every night. WTF!

    what supplements are you taking?

    What is your diet like?

    How are you stress levels?

What do you do before you go to bed?

Are you taking any sleep medications?

I expereinced this last night as well... then again, I worked out from 8-10 so that could've been it. So frustrating though... next time it happens I'm gonna take a gravol around 9 pm or so.. that'll do the trick...

Great and lasts 12 hours so make sure your not in the gym in the morning or you will have to take it earlier in the afternoon. Don't want to be hypnotised at the gym doing heavy squats.

If you are in the USA, It is the comercial with the little butterfly flying around.

It is perscription, but i have tried many script sleeping aids, and this has worked the best by far!! I am no small guy, and 3mg puts me out fast and I am NOT groggy in the morning.

For some reason I can't sleep at night that well, but I can fall asleep in the after noon EASY. Like at 4 pm if i lay down i'm sleeping before my head hits the pillow, wake up 2 hours later with the bed soaked in slobber and feel great.

I wake up at 4:30 but can never fall asleep until about 1 A.M. for some reason though, whether i take a nap or not.

    Damn alot of pill poppers.

If the insomnia last for more than a few weeks se a doc or a shrink. Just popping pills to hide it wont work very long.

i confess to taking immovane for about 3 years.... weined myself off it in february by my own choice.. best thing i ever did..

Oddly enough i sleep about the same now as i did on the immovane.. over time you build up resistence and the effectiveness of the pill just wears off.

Sadly doctors will keep writing the script. Because i have ADHd, sleep has and always will be an issue, and it has nothing to do with ritlain, sleep was a problem even before i took ritalin - i just have alot more energy and it's got no where to go even when i put my head down to rest.

I dont have ADHD but my insomnia problem(suffered from it for 3 years) sounds similar to yours, I could not relax my mind when I was trying to go to sleep. Thoughs just keept on racing around in my head all the time. My body was relaxed but not my mind.

When I started meditating I teached myself to switch of my thoughs and enabled myself to go to sleep.
Nowdays I just pop a few melatonin if Im mega stressed. But otherwise I sleep very well without any aid.

When I went to the pchyciatrist I just got alot of meds. But I hope my shrink was a example of a bad shrink. I turned down the strong stuff but instead ate handsfull of weaker non addictive sleep meds. In the end they didnt do any good at all.

I think psychitirsts jobs are not to listen to patients, but do indeed just hand out scripts..

Psycholigists are the listeners.. sad to say...

Even My Neroligist who i see for my ADHD - he doesn't have time to listen to me.. he checks to make sure everything is alright and that everything is alright with my medication, but he doesn't have time for much else.... just a quick check of vital signs etc..and body fat

5-htp is a good sleep aid as well helps to calm you down a bit.
melatonin as johan said good one

Valerian root - oh man this stuff smells like dirty feet...

i'm on the same boat as mizfit. Things that work for me... don't kill time playing video games or watching tv. It will just keep you up w/o you know it. Also...if you are pretty stressed... you are probably worrying about stuff when you try to sleep. I try to put my mind on TRYING to stay awake. It usually makes me pass out in a couple of hours instead of concentrating on "trying" to sleep in which i just toss and turn for days straight. But i've been suffering from this since i was 12.

I have had the problem for years.......and peeing multiple times per night doesnt help matters. I did the sleep pills and they just make you "need" them all the time.
I have found that my protein shake or cottage cheese before bed has helped and prayer or meditation. The problem is usually the brain not shutting off...not the body.
