Well that fking blows...
Get this...
My mother in law...whom i deeply loathe...did the most shiesty sh!t...
Ok...so she works at a nursing home...a tennant died...well she decided to keep his 12 yr old poodle....(I HATE POODLES).....she said..."ill find it a home"...well she took it home and showed her husband and of coarse...he made her get rid of it...
So...long story short...I told my wife from day 1...HELL NO...HELL NO...HELL NO...i knew what she was up to...she does slick sh1t all the time as it is...
anyway while i was gone 2 days at work she brings it over...her excuse...."my dogs will kill it"...by the time it was too late...my 4 toddlers are totally hooked on the f king mangey thing...
So...I..."DADDY" couldn't bear to upset my boys...NOW I HAVE A 12 YR OLD UN HOUSE BROKEN POODLE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
worst part about it is i had plans to buy them a nice lab or dalmation for christmas...now if i do that...ill have two dogs sh!tting and pissing everywhere

Perhaps it should "run away" (to the local shelter). Then get a dal.

You probably have to start to crate train the dog.
Feed her in her cage and leave the door open while she is in it for the first week.
The 2nd week, feed her in it, and close the door while she eats. Be right there though, so if she turns to get out you can open the door.
It makes it less stressfull on the dog, and they don't think of the kennel as a punishment this way.
If you are not there to watch her, in the kennel she goes until she is 100% house broken.
The problem is not your mother in law bro.....your wife enables her to do that. There is nothing you can do with the mother in law, you are not in a relationship with her. But you can talk to your wife about this kind of stuff.
It sounds like you are in the same posistion as your father in law.....he said get rid of it, and they did. Don't let your mother in law, use your wife as a pawn.

eh, learning to deal with disappointment is good character building stuff - ditch the dog and tell the kids - "aint gonna happen". they get over it quick.

man thats ****in bullshit. you're mother in law took on the responsibility of that dog, and she already knew what kind of environment she could provide for it and if it wasnt suitable she had no right taking it in. i say bring that poodle back to her house and tell her to square off a little ring for em all. if that old poodle gives a **** about his remaining years then he can fight for them.
