Fire Fighter Civil Service Exam and Polygraph test.

At the moment I am filling out my application to take the civil service exam to become a fire fighter. One of the questions was have you done any drugs in the past year. Well I have smoked marijuana in the past year. If I answer yes, how much will it effect my chances of getting in the fire department?They also give a polygraph test for this specific department.

My buddy had to take one for the city of Chicago, it's bullshit IMO. Unless you committed a crime I can understand.

Yeah, the city of Chicago P.D. is now cracking down and doing steroid testing as well. Shit's getting crazy these days.

They are trying to pass drug testing in the Boston FD as well. Right now there is no drug testing policy which I find odd. Of course the union will block it as long as they can. As for the polygraph, if you think you committed a crime then it will show up as such on the polygraph. If your consiense is clear then nothing to worry about.

Depends on the department...Miami Dade here in miami the poly is a must.

so its up to you how you answer if they are requiring a poly

I know the city where I'll be taking it has a polygraph test. I know some people who have taken it and when asked the same question they lied and did fine. I also know some people who admitted to it and still got in. They know that not everyone is perfect but as it was said earlier if you believe it and can control breathing and HR then you'll most likley be fine.

there are ways of beating it. just try to make your self as a anxious as possible, think of everything you can the ENTIRE time, don't let your self calm down.

Tough call man. But if i knew i had to take a poly, i'd just tell the truth. I know there's a lot at risk but it's better than being caught up in a lie imo.
