Good shit
An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer. The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama's plan". All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A.
After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little..
The second test average was a D! No one was happy. When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F. As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else. To their great surprise, ALL FAILED and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed. It could not be any simpler than that.
Remember, there IS a test coming up. The 2012 elections.
These are possibly the 5 best sentences you'll ever read and all applicable to this experiment:
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

Amazingly true and nice way to put a spin on it. Actually just had a debate in class yesterday about this exact topic. I guess it's a day late...still great stuff.

one reason why government is getting bloated, and taxes are so high?
most politicians cannot say NO to a constituent! if your constituants are more prone to expect benefits, and if you want to get elected, you have to promise/give them something.
typical political quid pro quo

California is the prime example of all of this. Our state has promised so many people a nice lucrative living, but there's just not enough working class to pay for it. And we don't want to be asking those illegals to just start paying a little into the system, we get called racists when we do that ...

So what happens if you loose your job and get cancer? explain to me how you deal with that?
explain to me what you do when your daughter gets sick?
I agree that some people are lazy and will take advantage of the system but that the minority! its easy to compare something like this to college but its not that simple!

Ive lost my job a few times, for over 1yr plus before and I was raising a daughter alone. You do what you can, it motivates you to get a better job, take on/off hour classes and get to where you want to go. If there is not a reason for a goal they why do the work. I agree with the above logic from the OP.
What if you could simply take the couch potato pill that would dissolve fat, give you lean muscle mass without having to go to the gym, would you? Yeah most people would.
It's not much different that natural selection. Those who work hard and smart will reap the benefits. No not 100% of the time but most of the time. Most people who are on welfare are fine with it. I have known many and they know how to work the system to get as much as possible with doing as little work to get it. This is just another way of keeping poor people poor, make it that much more comfortable for them.
Sometimes life sucks and bad things happen to good people. I have had my share of it but it's just life. You pick yourself up and more on, set goals and do your best. Otherwise settle for what you get.
