    Where does the time go??

Over the last few years I have been absent from this great community... poking my head in and reading a few things here and there and maybe even commenting once-in-a-while.

I just wanted to make a post and say it's great to see so many of you from back when I was new here still active and helping. Your dedication to this community and helping people learn is simply incredible. I don't want to mention names because of course I'd forget somebody, but you truly are amazing at how unselfishly you give your time to help those you do not even know. Not just the older guys but the new guys who I do not know and those who do not know me. I really love this lifestyle and I am grateful to those who keep this place alive and I just wanted to say thanks!

Over the last few years I've gone from being in shape and working out all the time to getting married having a kid and getting really fat with no visits to the gym. In October 2014 I started the journey to recapture my true self I've already seen incredible results (muscle memory is a great thing). I look forward to logging in more often again and become a true student of this world especially with my new goals... one of them being power lifting and being the strongest man I know.

Just want to reiterate that it's great to have this community and resource to plug in to and learn from such knowledgeable people... to all of you who know who you are, your time is appreciated.

Thanks for being who you are and let's all make 2015 a year to remember.

No. He's been MIA for the most part. Personal issues he's working through. Both KP and Kawi are both "retired" from the board. Still active members, just never post. Most likely due to "real life" having a significant impact on disposable time usually spent here on the board.

There are a few other Canadians from a few years back that are still here, but the three I mentioned are the ones you and I are most familiar with.

    So how's life?

Life is good... had a baby girl in March and that was amazing.... My wife and I never planned to have kids but these things happen and we both couldn't imagine life without her. Things in general are really good, I am a very happy person, especially now that I am back in the gym.

How about you, how are things??

me? that's a long story, as I've had much happen to me since the last time you and I have chatted.

    Spent some time in Afghanistan.

Had a variety of significant illnesses

was pushing 250 around May 2013, dropped to 195 by April 2014 as a result of the prior two conditions

let's see.... a couple of operations (back, hernia, appendix)

what else? I'm running finance for a techie start up company here locally

so in thirty seconds or less, that's the 411

    so a new baby girl?

you are going to really love that. I've only cried real tears a few times in my adult life. And the birth of my children were two of those times. There is so much emotion when your child is born. Happiness, pride, joy, relief (when you find out the baby is healthy), so much emotion, that some of it spills out in the form of tears. It's hard to describe, but now you know for yourself what I mean.

And I remember the first time my daughter and I danced. At a family wedding. She was maybe five or six. So I just made her climb aboard, on top of my shoes, and there we danced. Really good stuff.

And it's all yours. But remember, there are no "do overs". Get it right the first time. You will be rewarded with your daughters love forever.

It's funny that you talk about the emotions of having kids.... My wife had to have a C-sec because the baby was too big (9lbs 8oz) and the minute I heard her crying I starting crying like a baby.... I was wearing a mask (because we were in surgery) and there was snot pouring out my nose in the mask.... I was a disaster. Most powerful emotion I have ever felt and if there is a stronger one, I don't want to feel it because I'm not sure I could handle it. Her birth slotted in right in front of me seeing my wife on our wedding day as the most incredible feelings ever.

Everyone who knew me was glad I had a girl they all think I need to be softened up... and that's exactly what she has done is softened me up.

When you described dancing with your daughter I was smiling when I was reading that, just imagining me doing that with her, I can't wait.... I use to be afraid of getting old but now I'm excited because I get to watch her experience life and see it all through her eyes.... it's going to be incredible.

Glad to hear you're back in shape an doing well, as we get older we have to take care of ourselves.... I'm only 31 and I feel these new pains I never felt before when I used to workout at 24 and 25

yeah, you will have many wonderful moments with your daughter. and it's the little moments that mean a lot too.

For example, my daughter and I would watch "Johnny Quest", a cartoon, together. If you don't know Johnny Quest, it's about a boy and his dad and their pals that travel the world. the dad is a cartoon equivalent of Indiana jones of sorts, doing science experiments, traveling the globe. There is this one scene in the cartoon intro where there is this mummy that gives Johnny the "slow chase" (mummies don't run so well...) and so for a year or so, when my daughter would see that scene that is shown at the beginning of all their cartoons, she would do this little dance that emulated what the mummy was doing to johnny, complete with the outstretched arms. So I would laugh and call it her special "mummy dance" and then she would get all giggly/wiggly, like little girls can do, and do her "mummy dance" for me.

....until for some reason she got it in her head that doing the "Mummy dance" is for babies, so then she stopped.

You will have all kinds of little episodes like this you will cherish in your memory after she grows up.

in a few years, you will have your own list of little memories like this. And you will be the only one, save maybe your wife, that will savor these little memories. Cherish them, because they will belong to you!

enjoy every moment, before you know it they are grown and moved on with their own lives. I have two girls, 19 and 15, the older one has moved out and the younger one will most likely go away to school in a couple years. Congrats on the baby girl, they are a whirlwind of emotions.
