AS and immune system
Does AS strengthen or weaken your immune system?
I hooked up with a girl Friday and Saturday (and Sunday morning for the record) who is now really sick. One of my good friends is really sick with the same symptoms right now also, and I was around him all weekend too. Just wonderin if I'm screwed or not.
He started feeling sick Saturday, and she started feeling sick Monday.

my friend had a gf who got mono, and he didn't because he said the primo made his immune system stronger. this was a while ago, and I wasnt sure if it was BS or not.
maybe since your health, have a good diet and take your vitamins your a little tougher on the flu?

Yea maybe so, it doesn't seem like all the test running through my body would hurt either, but I really have no knowledge at all on the subject and am looking for any help. Thanks for the input. I sure wish TNT or Dr. Evil would read this......

Anyway, I don't think you can say that AS on the whole strengthens or weakens your immune system. There are so many different AS, some of which not even anabolic and some of which are not even steroids - what we loosely call "AS" is a whole family of drugs that interact with our bodies and with each other to help us achieve our goals.
That said, you didn't specify any symptoms, so I'm gonna hazard a basic guess and say that the two people you know have a case of the flu. Whatever it is, if it's something that is going around, it is potentially something that you have been exposed to already (especially if it was an intimate weekend, in which case I hope one of you made the other breakfast ).
The period of late January through early March is the peak flu season, and it reinforces the need for people to get flu shots in October or November each year. There is always some debate around that time of year as to whether flu shots are good or bad - some people with a more holistic perspective are against them - but inevitably, in February and March, we start seing posts from people who didn't get a flu shot the previous fall and now have it.
If it is a cold or the flu, the best thing is to ride it out - the flu is viral, not bacterial, so antibiotics won't knock it out immediately. But if you do get any symptoms, see a doctor - there are medications that can, at the least, provide symptom relief. And if you manage to avoid the symptoms (especially after intimate contact with someone who develops them), count yourself lucky. AS for the AS, I doubt that they would have any significant impact, one way or the other.

AS don't have a significant impact on immune system, some strong androgens can in fact weaken it if not accompanied with good and very strong diet which will promote immune cell production.
The fact that your gf and friend have the same symptoms could mean that they got it from you, because you may be carrying the virus, but your immune system is obviously strong enough so that you never got the symptoms. But the incubation period for flu is somewhere around 7 days, so there's still a chance that you might get it.
Take vitamins, especially vitamin C (you can take it in gram dosages - 2 g or so, there's a paper by Linus Pauling claiming that gram dosages of vit.C combat common flu, and he was talking about crazy dosages, like 10 grams or more), lots of fluid, and you should be OK.

Thanks for the tips guys. Woke up this morning feeling like crap though, so I'm kinda worried. I think I'm gonna stop taking clen for the time being because if I do get fever, I don't think I want anything thermogenic in me. I'll get more vitamins, and I'm gonna keep taking the sus and winny. It's gonna suck if I go to doc and I have to get a shot in the ass and he says, "The needle will hardly go in, what's all this scar tissue from?" I guess I'm just gonna drink muscle milk like it's going out of style if I do get sick and hope not to lose any weight.

Take some zinc losenges. They help prevent and reduce the duration of a cold. Since I started last year taking 25mg every morning and before bed I have not gotten one cold. Don't know if it'll work that well for everyone else, but it does the job for me. Also zinc makes you shoot big loads. Extra spunk during those money shots.

don't worry i read every thread
cortico steroids weakens the immune system greatly, but we're concerned with anabolics and there
there's evidence to suggest that androgens can both help and hinder immunity, but the overwhelming evidence supports that androgens do in fact help with immunity in mammals. here's one example, but keep in mind, these are animal studies with different diet and exercise demands than bodybuilders:
J Neuroimmunol 1999 Aug 3;98(2):121-9
Androstenediol (AED) prevents neuroendocrine-mediated suppression of the immune response to an influenza viral infection.
Padgett DA, Sheridan JF.
Department of Molecular Virology, Immunology and Medical Genetics, College of Medicine and Public Health, Institute for Behavioral Medicine Research, The Ohio State University, Columbus 43210, USA.
The goal of these studies was to analyze the ability of androstenediol (AED) to counter-regulate the influences of stress on anti-viral immune responses. Male C57BL/6 mice, treated with 320 mg/kg AED were infected with influenza virus and subjected to repeated cycles of restraint (RST). AED blocked RST-mediated suppression of cell recruitment to the draining lymph node, lung NK cell activity, and CD4 + T cell activation. In addition, mice treated with AED had lower pre-corticosterone levels as compared to vehicle controls and the RST-mediated elevation of corticosterone was significantly blunted by AED treatment. These data suggest that AED functions to augment anti-viral immune responses by counter-regulating glucocorticoid function.

btw, just make sure to take your multi vitamins and minerals. make sure to get plenty of rest and don't ever exert yourself when doing legs if you're feeling really sick. don't do cardio until you're better.
