    Blood in syringe...

So I just took a left glute shot, aspirated no blood. injected real slow like 20 secs/cc, left the needle in 30 secs after shot was done, and when i pulled out there was like 4 drops of blood in the syringe. IS THAT NORMAL??? it has never happened to me before, and my glute is a little sore, when it usually never gets this way...

YES, you are fine. You may have passed through a vein on the way in or out. It happens. As long as when you aspirated there was NO blood, you are good !!

nothing to worry about like sman12b stated prob passing through a vein, but why leave the needle in for 30 seconds after the shot is completed?

how did the blood get in the needle if you didn't pull back in the end or was it just on the tip?

i read some nursing pdf's on IM shots says "wait 10-15 seconds before withdrawing the needle to ensure dispersion of the medication". also i read in some threads people leaving in for like 20-30 secs, so i just do 30. is this kinda unecessary? i remember a shot a few weeks ago and pulled out after a few seconds after i was done injecting, and i swear i saw so gear leak out...

yes gear can leak out, pull the skin backa bit before you inject then after pulling the needle out let go of the pulled back skin and it will seal it right up, no need to leave in for 30 seconds

yup, that's all you need to do. displacing the skin from the tissue beneath like that will keep the gear from making it to the surface.
