To tell the Dr. or Not to tell the Dr.? That is the question..

I just want to know straight up.... who tells their Dr. they use AAS. Why or Why not? I want to know because I'm getting mixed answers in my other thread about me getting blood work done and what to say.

No......... unless you are facing a liver/kidney/heart failure....

a doc, although will not tell everyone.. he will document the fact that you abuse steroids , a controlled substance..

get the picture.. if you went in there with high BP.. and said you used coke.. he'd note that as well..

i tell mine, why not? is job is to help his clients, how is he gon help u if he doesnt know wut u want help with? if he isnt willing to help then find a new doc. honestly why would he care if ur on aas? he'll probably try to tell u how bad it is but...

Yes there is a question, because everyone's respones are different. I'm trying to get everyones opinion so I can make my decision. I know my health is more important, but what if I can't get insurance ever again?

what do you mean if you cant get insurance again? I have gone to a doctor for an infection from a bad injection, told him exactly what i did. All he did was give me a 5 minute lecture, and get me the proper antibiotics. i repeat, there is no question. All he put on the form he sent in to the insurance is "leg infection"

ya thats kinda fukd if it works like that, in canada we have health care so its different.

it doesnt work like that. doctors are there to help you, not screw you over for life. like i said the doc i went to wasnt happy about what i was doing but he's a doctor, and he did his job. Thank god i went too because my leg was huuuuge with infection

i've had my family doc for over 25 years, i told him i was planning a "low dose" test cycle and some GH. he had no problem with it what so ever.

ask Rush Limbaugh.. and those were not class 3 substances.

but hey... in a few years when your company wants to make you an office of the company, and put a $1,000,000 policy on you.. thier doc then reports back to the board that they cannot issue the policy due to a history of steroid abuse , and thus at an increased risk for a heart attack..

but you be the judge.. maybe you'll be pumping gas all your life.. if you know what' i'm trying to say here..

spy i completely disagree with you. like i said ive been to the doctor, told them i was using illegal drugs, and all he did was make me better. the only record of my visit indicates a leg infection. i think its bad form to warn people about not telling your doctor whats wrong. too bad doc m isnt around anymore to back me up on this

that's ok man.. i come from a different back ground.. my brother tells his doc everything.. mine hates me cause we are about the same age, and i'm in 200% better shape then he is..

I have to pay for my own blood work because he won't order the test..

so it's all cool..

I did not tell my dr when i went in for acne. First thing she said is your a big guy are you on steroids or done them. I dont want my insurance company thats through my union to know or have any record of that. She put me on accutane.

Yep. If there is no medical need, then the doc doesn't need to know. If you want specific test values, psa numbers, or whatever, just ask for them. There should be no need for you to justify knowing that.
If your Doc knows, it could affect your insurance. I've heard of this happening, though admittedly only on the boards and not firsthand.

Doctors are there to help you...not rat you out and ruin there rep...tell him everything otherwise a drug he gives you could re-act and have bad side effects or kill you!

All Dr.'s are different.

If i had a serious medical condition, or wanted to get bloodwork, i'd say, "Doc, i've done steriods , blah blah". And i'm sure he'd help me out.

But in my case, i had gyno from steroids , and in the back of my mind, ins. wouldn't pay for the surgery if it was cosmetic (which this was). so i told my Dr. that i took otc ph's, and he labeled it "tissue biopsy", took out the gyno and gland, and ins. paid for it.

i guess it depends on what you're going to the Dr. for...

had my old doc( he's about 50 )for 10yrs and asked about hrt and got the barry bonds story and it would make my head grow bigger.
went to another doc ( about 40 ) and when blood work came back he asked if i was on any otc meds, test levels were 3094, told him no.
i agree, anything in your records can be used against you.

However, she doesn't put it in my file. (Lets just say I make sure of it.)

Your medical file can be subpeona (sp?) by the courts. FYI

I told my family doctor a few years ago I was going to do it and got a baseline done. He did not even write down that I was going to use, after cycling I would go back and he did not write down anything, well, at patients request so insurance did not pay. He just moved a few months ago and this new doc I would not tell him a thing. He is kinda a dipsh!t and he is good for cold medicine, but he seems like the kinda guy that would try and say something or write it down in my records. Lost a d@mn good doc.

What do you know? I just got back from the dr. this morning. I asked him for a physical and to order bloodwork for Oasis. He was a bit leary but had no prob. ordering the blood work. He asked me if I was going to make bodybuilding my career???? Haha he didnt get a good enough look at me Im nowhere near competition size, weight, or physique. Tell him definately.

I have not told my doctor, but i think next time i go in i will bring it up as in me considering trying steroids and see how he reacts to it. I would definitly make sure to say something to him first about patient-doctor confidentiality.

Just tell him about your specific health challenges and he might suggest a test panel anyway. Ask him a bunch of questions, let him know you do not want to come back every other week until a problem is rooted out. You want all the lab tests done that can be so you can figure out what to do next.

To me it depends on your problem and your doctor... if you are having an issue due to the aas then you need to speak up caues like it has already been said the only one that suffers is you... and it also depends on the doctor I do not think any doc is out to **** you but you might not want that **** documented ... i told a doc i trusted once and he was cool he just put down medication advice he even said to me jsut incase insurance ever got a hold of it they wouldn't know for what I could have came in and asked him about viagra catch what i am saying... good luck bro

I tell.

Due to privacy laws, doctors can't give that info out to anybody except other doctors, even then you must sign a release form giving your consent. The only thing that could come out of a doctor knowing would be a lecture, possibly hesitation to put you on some medications (probably for good reason), and more effective treatment of various symptoms/conditions. Not much to lose compared to what you gain dude.

If anybody here thinks their medical records are kept top secret due to the fact that its against the law and that you signed a few papers.......you are fooling yourselves. Its against the law for people to look at your medical records right? Yes. But is it not also against the law to use a controlled substance? Is it not against the law to steal? To murder? ALL OF THEM HAPPEN. Get my drift?
