heard a rumor that guys are starting to use a white powder administered through an iv to boost hemoglobin. this stuff is commonly used on the scene by EMS workers in emergency situations. anyone heard of it?

Ummm...Hespan...is the only thing I know that is used by emergency medics. It's a blood volume expander used for people that are badly bleeding or going into shock. It's in a liquid I.V. form and it would have no effect on performance. That's the only thing I could think of that is used

well if its a "blood volume expander" then wouldnt it increase oxygen circulation throughout the respitory system, and thus increasing VO2 max and endurance?

no...it replaces plasma volume only..you still have the same amount of red blood cells it's just in a larger volume. It's to prevent shock from blood loss.

i think guys are using it with epo to boost their plasma volume allowing more epo to be taken without the risk of clotting the arteries. thus, resulting in a heartattack...

it simply lessens the risk of a heartattack while using high dosed epo

true, true, i hydrate excessively before going to bed to avoid heart attacks as my heart rate descends, but most of the time when i wake up im dehydrated. isnt this dangerous? by the way im not considering using this blood plasma expander. just trying to figure out why guys are using it.

You wake up dehydrated? do you have to piss alot during the night? i wouldn't think that's "dangerous" Why are you worried about heart attack? does it run in the family or something?

As for the Hespan, I really don't thin kanybody uses that for BBing reasons. The stuff is crazy expensive...I was a supply guy for my aid station and a case of 12 - 500ml bags was $350. You would do better with Lactated ringers solution...that's more of a hydrator and it's about $30 for a case of 12 - 1000ml bags

yea i do piss a lot during the night after hydrating. nah doesnt run in the family, but epo causes ur blood to clot easier. if u are dehydrated/plasma too low it allows these clots to form easier. ur heart rate drops significantly on epo, and even lower while u sleep (for obvious reasons). if ur heart rate gets too low and ur rbc is high it can clost fairly easily. this is what happened to a number of cyclist about 8 years ago...they simply did not wake up from their sleep.

Ya I heard about all that. People droppin cuz thier blood was basically too thick. very important to stay hydrated. More so than trying to us I.V. fluids. I don't think you would be up to getting an IV every day
