Hernia and Anabolics?
Hey folks. I'd like to know how getting or having a hernia effects peoples use of anabolics and workout routines at the gym? All replies welcome...

I had a hernia 2 years ago that I got repaired. During 2007 I ws really pushing it hard at the gym (including a dbol and var only cycles). Next thing I find out during a routine physical, doc says it came back! Had it repaired again 2 mo. ago. Now I don't want it to come back a 3rd. time so I want to know what everybody thinks...

I have an umbilical hernia, right behind my belly button, I can actually stick the top of my little finger into it. I am just watching it at the moment, had it for quite a while. I havnt altered my routine at all.

Wow. My hernia was an inguinal. I think I spelled that right. Never any pain at all. Never felt it come back either during time at the gym.

I never knew I had one either until I went to the Dr one day for something totally unrelated and he saw it.

I would think that theonly effect that aas would have on a hernia is the increased weight that you would be lisfting. I may be wrong but I don't think that it would effect the hernia itself. The additional weights may cause a reoccurence though. Just my thoughts.

Had a double hernia for who knows how long. Doc said the left side was more severe so I had surgery to repair (the old net job). Recovery was brutal, hurt like mofo for a couple of weeks. Needless to say I haven't been back for the right side. Unless it's really giving you problems on a daily basis, I'd take a look at longhorns answer. Just my .02.

ohh yea i am worried as hell its painfull and stop my workout.after the first surgery while on cycles i held back for a long time would not push myself and when i stopped worrying i blew it out again.

Well that's what I needed to hear. I'm just getting back to the gym the last week I feel like I wanna take up where I left off a few months ago before blowing it out again. Man it's real hard to hold it back and tone it down, but I can't go thru this a third time.
I still haven't gotton around to my first test cycle yet, and plan for it to happen around April or so.

well i am not sure if its the best idea but i asked my surgeon what he thought about me starting a cycle as soon as i get 100% clear which is friday and he was honestand said that he felt i was going to be 110% healed and that he could not see me blowing it agian.so i have decided after friday oppoitment if i get the 110% go ahead i will be starting test cycle monday.i have lost some since from 3 months of doing nothing.and man i miss the gym

So I did legs today. Doc said sqauts is what causes my type of hernia. It's inguinal. That's right side near groin. So I kept feet close together doing squats and it went alot better than a wide stance. I notice leg extensions and crunch machine puts alot of pressure on that area so I'l be limiting those exercises.
Also found out breathing is very important. Have to not hold breath but exhale during movement and not strain, keeping pressure from building up in the area of hernia repair.
Next 3mo. will be training natty. Then I hope to run a test cycle for 12wks. By then I think I'll know how to work around this injury without bringing it back.
