running a cycle with shoulder pain?

    Okay so heres my delima,
I havent ran a cycle for over a year, and I want to run one pretty soon.
But my problem is I have shoulder pain in my left shoulder.
It hurts whenever I do any bench presses. but I am able to do pretty much all my other exercises without that much pain. I have been doing my chest workout with dumbells since I got this pain in my shoulder.
I was going to wait to see if it healed but its been six months already with not much improvment.
I don't have money to go to the Dr.
so my question is, do you think it would be okay for me to run a light cycle to gain a little muscle?

Might I add, I wouldnt be using any crazy weight for my shoulders or anything, I would probably use a moderate weight and go to failure so I don't risk injuring my shoulder more.

TBH mate, it wouldn't be wise to cycle or train that particular muscle group until you find out why you have shoulder pain. The deltoid is a very complex joint and you could be doing some serious damage. Damage, that in the long term may require surgery.

I am going through PT after having shoulder surgery at the present time and I will agree that you need to get that shoulder checked before doing a cycle. Go to a charity hospital and have it checked if you don't have the money. If it hasn't improved in 6 months then more than likely you have a tear of some sort.

Wow its like you explained my life story! I waited myself six months thinking my left shoulder pain would go away, which i messed up last cycle. It never did so went into a doc. and turned out that I have separated my ac joint and causing arthritis. So going in for surgery tomorrow to be exact, hope god you dont have the same thing bro. Go to orthopedic. Save your gear dont run a cycle untill you recover, I wanted to do same thing but held myself back.

    Same, my life story.

If you are going to run a cycle no matter what use a steroid with a lot of water retention, that may help the pain instead of making it worse.

The only way the should pain is going to go away is if you take some time off: at least two weeks or see a doctor. If you can't bare to do either of those, at least don't use your shoulder for at least two weeks.(this includes doing up right rows, benches, presses of any sort..etc)

If there is any kind of joint, tendon or bone pain don't use the joint! It will just make things worse.
I would talk to a doctor first, but it may be okay to use very light lifts that are not to failure. very very light, ie below 15 pounds. (that's what I was told by a physical therapist)

By taking off time and allowing your shoulder to heal you will be able to build more muscle in the long term. Even though it is difficult to take time off and you may think you will loose a bunch of muscle, but two weeks should really not have an effect. I read that a few pro's take two months off after a show.

It could also be your shoulder bone scraping against your scapula. (or something along those lines) I was reading about it in Flex and it explained that a lot of lifter keep on using a hurt joint that is scraping in that matter and in doing so they turn where the joints meet into just dust and expensive surgery and a long recovery follows.

In the long run it will probably be cheaper to see a doctor now, because as you might have seen with pitchers, often those that keep on using a joint end up having to get a far more expensive surgery + physical therapy. If you have had pain for six months something is wrong and continuing to use it could cause a lifelong unfixable injury.

My advice would be to see a physical therapist, just don't buy supplements for a couple months and you should be able to afford it. Please don't lift until your shoulders is healed. Icing and heating pads may also help inflammation.

Sorry to ramble on, I just don't want another lifter to get a serious injury. Good luck.

I agree with the previous posts- I dealt with left shoulder pain for a long time (about 4 months) until I took my Doc and Chiropractors advice- laid down my ego and switched to doing the typical rotator cup exercises with VERY low wieght, and bench with low weight, perfect form, high reps...

This can be difficult to do when everyone around is benching heavy...

Ultimately, ya gotta lay down the pride and take care of yourself.

    Be safe- consult a physician
