    Alcohol and muscles :(

Post workout how bad are the effects of alcohol? Is it beyond bad? i want to drink tonight but also want to workout at 4pm. Are the detrimental effects of alcohol magnified if its consumed after a workout? Would i be better off not workin out today, and working out in the morning instead?

As always drink in moderation. Don't get plastered.

    And keep this in mind.

    1) It negatively affects protein synthesis.

Protein synthesis is the process where amino acids are joined together to form complete proteins. Excessive alcohol consumption slows this process down by up to 20%, and since your muscles are made up of protein, you can see how this is a problem.

    2) It lowers testosterone levels and increases estrogen.

Testosterone is the most important muscle-building hormone in your body. One of the limiting factors that determines how much muscle a person can gain is their level of free-flowing testosterone.

    3) It causes dehydration.

The kidneys must filter very large amounts of water in order to break down the alcohol, and this can result in severe dehydration within the body. Water plays an absolutely crucial role in the muscle-building process, and being even slightly dehydrated is a recipe for disaster. The muscles alone are comprised of 70% water.

    4) It depletes the body of vitamins and minerals.

Alcohol consumption causes vitamins A, C, the B's, calcium, zinc and phosphorus to all be drained at rapid rates. Vitamins and minerals keep every little process in your body functioning properly, and many of these processes involve muscle growth and maintenance.

    5) It increases fat storage.

With 7 empty calories per gram, alcohol can actually be quite fattening. Alcohol also disrupts the Kreb's Cycle, which plays an important role in fat burning.

bro everyone is going to tell you what you know already, alcohol and bodybuilding don't go well together. Its not going to kill you but it will hinder progress. Worse if you add gear to the equation, horrable if your on orals. Other than that, go out and enjoy life bro.. you only live once, try to learn how to have fun without booze. It took me a while and it has helped me alot, my boys are happy cause they got a DD and my game has improved, I've saved a shit lot of $$$ too

Alcohol in moderation won't effect anything...but I have a feeling "moderation" will have no part in your night... so no, you shouldn't

ok so if i was goin to drink even tho its bad will it be smarter to save my workout till the following day. Yes i love goin to the gym and enjoy lifting weights and seeing progress but i still wanna have fun and live life. I stopped drinking for about 5 months last yr and missed out on alot of fun times with mates so i have decided im willing to find a happy medium, so wat if im 3 or 4 kilos lighter then i would be if i never drank atleast im havin fun. I dont think your body should run your life. no offence to those that dedicate all their time and work every aspect of their lives around body building. but its just not me.

i drink every weekend and have made great gains. im ****ed for like 1 day after but its usually my off day.

sure, your gains might not be as much as they would be when you dont drink but i think its worth it for the fun you have.

I hardly ever drink anymore. I had a glass of wine the other night, that was enough for me.

wtf is the point of working hard on diet/gym, then going and getting wasted?

20% is a small number. i tip my server 20% and its nothing. so 20% wont have such an affect.... and thats only excessive amounts of alcohol that cause that. take some BCAA"s during your night out. lol
    2) It lowers testosterone levels and increases estrogen.

Testosterone is the most important muscle-building hormone in your body. One of the limiting factors that determines how much muscle a person can gain is their level of free-flowing testosterone.
take an AI the day before and after your night out
and get on TRT. that way the alcohol wont lower your test. it cant with TRT

    3) It causes dehydration.

take some animal packs to the party

dont take a cab home after the party. run home
    these are all in jest

so anyone who wants to give me grief. i was messing.

i dont drink. i had one glass of wine last night in memory of a loved one. other then that i havent drank excessivly or been drunk in years.

Insulin is def. more anabolic than Test, it is the most anabolic of all the hormones.

However, long term Insulin use can make you a lifetime diabetic because the cells become insulin resistant.

Good question Dizz. I have wondered if there is any measurable effect from 1-2 drinks a couple of times per week. I enjoy a couple strong (probably doubles) Marker's and 7 maybe 2x per week.

1-2 drinks is fine it won't kill your gains, but it won't help them either.

ill have to say drinking isnt good @ all along with everyone else, basically poisoning ur body, but i like to go out and have fun 2, try to just work on that buzz and keep it which is what i do and hopefully im sober by the time i hit the bed. I drink about once a week usually the nite b4 a day off @ the gym cuz i couldnt do shit the next day anyway, i see a setback, but it basically subtracts one day out of my week. so i like to say every nite of drinking nulls out the following day. but thats just me, but i love to party
