Taking some ibuprofen on cycle bad?
Hey, I don't know if I read this right, but I could swear I remember saying somewhere taking ibuprofen after exercise/on cycle was bad (not bad but not recommend) because it prevented the muscle growth because it is anti-inflammatory.
Now I can't remember if it talked about muscles or tendons?
I need to take some ibuprofen right now to alleviate some pain I have because I just came back from the gym. Just want to make sure its all good to take...I never take any type of pain medication before, but I don't want the pain to lead to anything serious.

I will never use ibuprofen again. It inhibits protein synthesis, I have been seeing studies about it in virtually every magazine lately but before that I think I rememebr reading a study on pubmed, its generally not a good drug to take unless you are in serious pain, not from soreness associated with lifting. Are you sure it is PAIN and not just SORENESS?

I'm sure it can't be that bad in reality...
sometimes you gotta do what ya gotta do though

just a small amount of anabolic support will most likely overcome any negative effects of nsaids when it comes to to anabolism..
i use it with no negative results

Yes, thats what I think I read. It inhibits protein synthesis
My shoulders were KILLING me bro, like it felt like a pump in my shoulders. It started getting worse and after the workout I wanted to rip my skin off and just massage my tendon lol.
But now its fine, the pain is gone and everything is back to normal.
I just don't want to develop tendinitis in my shoulder or some shit.

Well I would make sure my form is correct, honestly think about it.
then I would look at my rep range, if it is causing pain to the point where you need to medicate yourself, I would consider warming up more, maybe literally heating up your shoulders before you lift or lower the weight a bit for some time.
I am sure you can think of a better way to alleviate the pain and not have to use painkillers, I don't recommend taking any kind of medication to make your pain go away, pain is there for a reason, to tell you something is wrong. Sure once or twice isn't going to kill you, it won't do THAT much good either but, I have seen myself and others get hooked on shit from just once or twice. Even ibuprofen.
Vicodin is the only thing I have ever found myself literally addicted to.

imo proper dosages of ibuprofen and other nsaids is fine ...if heavy and consistent use becomes necessary - then seek alternatives (like see a doc) tylenol is not an nsaid ..it is also possibly not as effective for that very reason...but u can try it as mentioned above... i SERIOUSLY doubt gains will be inhibited....

Same thing happened to me a couple workouts ago... the pain was so bad I was crawling in my skin... it's like having a migraine in your shoulders... spread into the neck.. just an overall severe ACHE that is relentless. I think it's a rotator cuff thing...
I ended up taking 2 advil, then another 3 before I could fall asleep.
Does it really affect muscle growth?

I did chest, so I think the combination of bench press and incline bench press caused my shoulders to hurt.
I mean I get this pain every once in a while, usually signfying that my shoulders are taking a good workload, but the pain was the worst I have ever had, usually its this dull pain, today however, it was a sharp pain that wouldn't go away (got through my workout alright but afterwards when I wanted the pain to go away it just hung in there till I got home and then it got better)
My form is fine, especially my bench form, I do everything by the book.
So I guess either my tendon in my shoulder was acting up or it was the rotator cuff.

I use Nsaids mainly to reduce joint inflamation when it happens in that case its well worth it IMO. I would'nt use it for any other reason though.

hmmm just did some reaseacrh ...same appears true for tylenol , and btw tylenol also lowers levels of fsh ...
I still seriously doubt any gains would be inhibited ..especially at normal usage as opposed to continuous high dosages. Hell did u see the tom prince post in the lounge ? he was f-ing huge and took massive, consistent doses of ibuprofen according to his interview.... i wouldnt and wont hesitate to use it if needed..

I also have bad shoulder problems myself, dislocated right one about 10 times and left shoulder had acromioclavicular arthroscopy. I can tell you better than most, the remedy isn't in pain relievers.

Yep, me too. I hadn't been doing that exercise for too long when I felt an almost pop followed by intense burning and tingling in my left shoulder. I've had problems ever since with that shoulder.
I'm still trying to find what exercises are good for shoulders that don't cause flare ups. Been doing Arnold presses, and they were fine up until a couple workouts ago...

funny, flat barbell bench is way worse for me than incline press.
